make your own

For $10 AUD a pad can be purchased from Clarke Rubber, it has jigsaw puzzle edges and is a sort of gym mat and can join others..........

anyway

1 draw out the shape of the pad
2 cut it out
3 using a circular saw set on 5mm depth cut diagonal grooves from left to
right and then from right to left
4 using a grinder champher down the edges
5 use a waterproof contact cement paint board and pads
6 cheap and great pads and if your knee is bad glue some extra padding on

If any one is interested in making their own pads (re budgies post) I have quite a few of the jigsaw edged mats green & yellow to give away to anyone that wants to give it a go.
I will be at the Phillip Island comp in November, let me know and I can bring some with me or we can catch up for a surf over the coming weeks if you can't wait that long!

Cheers Gary

TSenn,

please tell me you're not planning to put pads on that beautiful Lis you had posted a while back.

black bubbles

Kev, are you privy to inside information :?:
Are you predicting that after the wave drought there'll be a black bubble drought?

Thanks for the replies. And yea, it's the Orange Lis...I've never used the pads before so I'm going to give my knee some more testing. I rarely kneeboard in the summer, mostly winter with a wetsuit, but I have some warm water trips planned so...we shall see. thanks again

Probably late in the day but Squid Grip.

I currently have Parkes but next board gets the Squid treatment.

Disclaimer: I'm gonna preface this with "... you won't know if you don't ask"... so here goes... keep in mind that I'm a beginner at the sport.
1) Do people wax their deck pads? 2) I have seen "sweet spot" mentioned a lot on these posts and have a question about what that means... does it mean that there is a position on the pad where you place your knees every time you take off? I'm a little confused because I've see pictures on this site of people surfing with their knees in various positions on their board... even hanging off a rail.

1) You don't need to but it won't do any harm.

2) It's about where your knees go on the board, not the pad. You want your knees just behind the widest point and as far apart as is comfortable. The pads should be placed accordingly.
