my friends bodyboard has 1/4" dimples all over the bottom of his board...its a no.6 BB, very high end....
i feel i can get into waves easier with this board and delayed bottom turns are a blast! The dimple bottom loads up and recoils fast...
it wouldnt be the same in a glassed board ...but would be perfect for a high performance black ball beater....hmmm

Mike, anyone living is too young to golf.Mike Fernandez wrote: I'm too young to golf ...
See my earlier post. Spend a day wet rubbing with 1200 grit paper and see how slick your fingers feel afterward.Mike wrote:I doubt if dimples work in the water, or else the powerboat racing/America's Cup/US Navy submarine folks would have figured it out.
As for dimples, try substituting the word "gimmick" in Mike's sentence above ...

There is a slight issue with this concept.
Sharks don’t have scales, they have a skin.
Their skin is very rough, and in fact it could be used as sandpaper.
The problem with dimples on surfboards in the past is that they have all been around the 2 to 3 inch size. The “dimples” on a shark are less than a millimeter (fractions of an inch).........
....And in fact are tiny little raised dots, not unlike a non-skid surface on a boat. (With me RM?).
Don’t know if that would work on a ridged structure like a surf board.
If you really want to find out paint the bottom of your board with a marine non-skid paint.
As for me I'm happy with a wet rub.
Wet rub
No thats not a crude Australian joke, a wet rub as in sanding the bottom.
No, No the bottom of the surfboard

Imagination is more important than knowledge.
For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand.
While imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.

Womble, if you make any oblique references to wet rubbing a tug you'll end up in trouble.womble wrote:As for me I'm happy with a wet rub.

FromFrom the foregoing, it will be understood by persons skilled in the art
that the present invention provides a surface lubricant for topical
applications to objects used by sport enthusiasts where these objects are
in contact with various forms of water, such as liquid water, ice, snow or
combinations thereof. Thus, it is useful for application upon skis, sleds,
luges, toboggans, and hulls of boats, canoes, kayaks, etc. to increase
speed, glide and maneuverability across these forms of water.

You don't have to have a patent to wax the bottom of your board like a snowboard, or ski
Ok, seriously, and I'm sure I'm not letting out a secret, but Baden Smith waxes the bottom of his boards with car wax. Can't argue with Baden.

I thought I detected a little dimple in his cheek from what I perceived was his smile as he floated there about six inches from my face, his eye staring at me, I'm sure his nose detecting the electromagnetic signals emanating from my body, the signals of pure fright, of which I am sure he felt proud for causing, reassuring himself he was, "da man."

Ted, this is Chumley, during a shark cage diving trip in Maine.
album_showpage.php?pic_id=5213
My friend Chumley scared the crap outta me on this dive. I never got inside the shark cage, and I was drifting about five feet underwater looking for the sharks, and I turned to my right, and RIGHT NEXT to my head is Chumley's eyeball, about six inches away! I couldn't move for about two seconds as he hovered looking at me. When he started swimming, I blasted three shots off with a wide angle lens. He was so close, he didn't even fit into the frame. He is my friend, since I think he could have taken my face or head off.

So does anyone have any feedback on the effect of waxing your bottom?Mike Fernandez wrote:

If you mean clean and shiney type of waxing, I think it looks good and keeps the bottom clean. If you mean textured waxing, yuck I don't think ieither makes a difference in performance, but if it works in ones head, perception is everything

Ted it's suppose to be flat on my days off, or blown out when there are waves this week. Also, I would come up for a surf this winter if your up for it. I have never surfed Rhode Island.
