REPAIRS PROBLEMO'S ETC

Post by jdc »

gots a fair sized bubble in the deck of the oldest board, happily just foward of knee pads so does not for the time being seem to effect the performance.

it feels like it will have to crack at some stage as its more or less where the thumb goes when Im duck diving

where did it/do they come from?

can they be fixed?

cheers

Sounds like a bit of delam happenining.Copped a bump or a bit of heat on the board. YES It can be fixed. You can have a crack at it yourself or pay someone to fix it.Goodluck either way.

Someone on a previous thread suggested drilling a couple holes in the delam and then injecting resin in with a syringe then covering the holes with tape.

Dont forget to get some pressure on the fix to bond the skin down and let all the excess resin out. You dont want a pool of resin there, you want the skin bonded. Maybe a sand bag or something with an even weight.

excellent suggestion about the sandbag, Bill.

The method I have used for delam is to make small slits with a razor knife or Exacto-knife...size and number of the cuts will depend on the size of the delamination. Pick up a large syringe (no needles necessary) from Thrifty Drug or Walgreen's. Fill the syringe with resin/catalyst and squeeze the liquid into the cuts, trying to get as much resin into those "bubbles". Press down on bubbles to flatten them and "take" the resin mixture.

Use weight (sandbags sounds good) for an even distribution. Make sure to clean up excess resin that "oozes" from your repairs. There will be sanding and cleanup afterwards.

This is, of course, Redneck Ingenuity. There may be other contributors who have a more civilized approach.
