I warned you.....
Here are the photos of my Fluro PINK 80s Strapper with XT Turbo Fins. If I can't get the pics here check out my album.
Tried to get a decent image of the bend in the XT Turbo fins. As I have said before I rekon Michael Di was way ahead of his time back in the 'Fluro' 80S.
Please no comment about my lazy gaffa tape repairs. This has been in my garage for 25+ years!

those grips look sick !
i like that theres alot of area in those fins and that the curve is not constant like the FCS CRV sides...so they dig deeper
..letting you lean further into your turns before cavitation..= more drive!
i like the lift feeling in the CRVs but after switching back and forth many times i feel there flawed .....not enough down the line speed and despite being super stiff(carbon fiber) they dont react fast enough in turns....
the generall consencess <spell ...is that flexible fins (plastic, dry lam glass) react slower then stiffer fins(wood, carbon,"performance" glass, ect)
...i think the flaw is in the curve....
maybe you figured this out along time ago
is there any flex in your fins?

Poorboy...love the retro board. I still have a couple of boards with those old Gorrilla grip pads. They were a bugger if you got them in the wrong spot and gave a nice rash during summer.
Skanksand... I find the opposite think CRV fins give alot more speed than conventional fins (and lift as you say)...however the draw back is in turning especially in critical sections. After playing round with the CRVs for some time it seems the back fin placement is critical and needs to be pretty close behind the 2 front curved fins...
I'll dig up a pic of a favourite old school board of mine..

wish I still had my scooped deck and turbos
a great collectors item
my turbo fins were different to the XT's
a gentle continuous curve and not the kick of those pictured above
can't show any pictures of my fins as I never took any before loosing one and replacing with a boxed set-up
I too had the Gorilla Grip
but for me it was fluro baby blue
my strapper went up in flames in a car fire on the hume highway across from Gundagai (just before the tucker box heading north)
lost just about everything in that fire except strangely 7 books of Rumi poetry stacked on top of each other, singed around the edges but still readable
bloody vw's
If Split Enz surfed it would of had to have been on an 80's strapper
Michael D's brother told me a while ago that he still surfs on a fluro pink number
