Quad rear fin placement

Post by Terence H »

Hello guys my new board is being made as i type this and i would just like to clarify this before my fins are placed.
I notice some some of the rear quad skegs are placed closer to the stringer and some further away.
Are there any specific reasons for this would either closer or further away suit particular types of surf or style of riding.

Thanks
Terence

What works here in Santa Cruz:

the leading edge of the rear fin is 3 3/4" from rail
the rear edge of the fin is 2 3/4" from rail

Greenough moved his twin fins closer and closer together until he had a single fin :!:  .....".the feeling just got better and better."

.by moving your rear quad fins closer together your making it feel more like a single/Tri, ...

, more on the rail, they feel more like a twin then a single/tri.....

fin templates can change accordingly...

look at what slaters riding  ... center fins just a few inches apart...

somewhere behind the centre-line is good ... LOL ... I will say that the US boards seem further back than the aussie boards .. My Parkes are as follows .inner rear are 460mm and outer forward are 590mm from the rear point and 325mm apart and 395mm apart at the leading edges and not parallel with each other ... Hope this helps
