big old guy looking for advise on board size

Post by kosmicdreamer »

hello im 6'5 260lbs and..... i have surfed and bodysurfed most
of my life.. but now im over 60 and the jump up is gone but not the passion. So i thought i would try a new direction which is what brought me here... What a wealth of info. on these threads... anyway i have built a few boards and and now working with poly more than traditional.. with my size i would appreciate any help on what would work best for me as far as size, shape, rails, fin placement etc. i live in northeast florida.. the waves generally smaller 3-4' but can get double overhead when its firing.. im pretty stoked about getting back into the pocket again so any help would really be appreciated...

I just started surfing again about a yr ago.... trying to anyway... I have complety lost my strength for a quick jump up so i took to riding my long board on my knees.. Which is what brought me to this site...
There is a guy around here that rides a LH stand-up-paddle on his knees (no fins!!), and loves it!! Says he has soo much fun and sometimes pops up to his feet near the end of the wave. He likes the carve of the board.

He was a S Cal kneelo back in the day and just happened upon this board recently.

I have seen him rip big overhead waves from way outside and the best part is that he can paddle(with his arms) real fast and cover alot of ground quick. No way to keep up with him.. just goes and goes!!!

i can see im going to get a lot of opinions on this, which is great... im a little
old to start a brand new quiver... but it always seems to happen anyway.
I like the fella knee riding a SUP that's something i have done a few times
myself... not really that much fun paddling through a heavy shorebreak to
get outside though..

Red sent me some great specs. and templates for a board i think will work
pretty good for a starter board.. may tweek it a little for the waves i ride
locally.. I appreciate all the info. We are in our typical summer flat spell
so i hope i can build this one before we get a tropical bump.. Definetly
going with the fish design... but will give up a little speed for some stability.
still ridin with all these broken parts....
