why are modern Kneeboards so BIG!!Why even kneeboard?

I don't really understand why modern kneeboards have gotten soooooo big.I mean they are larger than tow in boards!! A 6ft 6 and larger kneeboard??Why not just stand up --you guys don't wear fins anymore anyway!Those pic's of guys at big hawaii in chun's page the boards are 7ft!! it doesn't even look like they can turn and the question of bounce?? A board 6'6" and 24 in wide, does it not bounce?? it seems design has gone a little astray!!Why not just stand up and ride surfboards??Just my observation----------

im riding rincon on a 5-6, next bords going to be around 5-2, realy carved out and thin.. i dont know why so many people are going big eather, ive ridin big boards and there only fun in the mush, but thats just me

If you were to find out the age of the average kneelo, I think it would be getting up there; likewise for weight, I daresay.
I think that would go someway to explaining!
I'm 49 this year & riding 5'9" but can't imagine going longer, probably shorter for the next board....
I'd be interested in knowing what the young crew on the forum here ride, if there are any?? Or the Simpson brothers here in OZ?

all this about thongs got me thinking about the early days, when it was the go to be on the look-out for orphan thongs on the beach or wher-ever & how difficult it was to get the right if you had a left, etc...
Incidently, for the flipper wearers; have you noticed that whenever you find a flipper washed up, its the same story? I think I have 3 or 4 lefts!
Don't think I've ever put a set together that way.
HW,
does that mean that 7'2" will be the norm for the aging kneelo in another 10 years??
By the way, at 48, the thought of young Swedish groupies fills me with fear.

I've got 6 Swedes living with me for three weeks (Yarr). Too bad none of them are groupies though, unless you count my wife.

Im 6'3" and i ride my boards 5'9"-5'10". Sounds short hay?

This topic is strange..
Like I'm sure it started out as a comment about modern Kneeboards being too big..but with posts from Matty Nov and Steen we are seeing that 'small' is still the desired effect.
Too cool..coz it all goes to show what you're opinion of big, or small, actually is.
I've gotta agree with Steeno and Nov.. 5' 10" for my summer board is small.
And to all..remember that modern boards have modern rockers..a modern 5' 10" bears, in fact, no resemblance to a 70's 5' 6" whatsoever..length is purely proportionate to curve..so comparing one now..to one then becomes the apple and orange trip..
Just go and surf what you like..as long as you do.
