What works & what doesn't and in what type of conditions. Got a "secret" only you and your shaper know???? Post it here... we can keep it quiet ;-)

Pendoflex

Post by El Coyote »

Anyone here ever ride a Pendoflex board? I saw a standup riding one at el morro yesterday and was very impressed.

Does Pendarvis also make kneeboards?

Yeah, he makes kneeboards too, I've never ridden one of his boards so can't comment on how they ride, but they look like candy too. Check out his website, he has a few pics of kneeboards there. He also does the pendo decks for other shapers, such as Toby Pavel. He put a deck pad on my fish that works great, not his whole pendoflex thing but a really nice flush with the deck pad. Very low profile but plenty comfy, no wax needed.

:( D@#n you kid, I was just going to post that and you beat me by a couple of mins. But seriously, Steve used to be one of the kneeboarder "crew" who surfed Shadows Reef. He can and does make kneeboards, he's been shaping for 40+ years. I've never have surfed one of his boards, but I got a Pavel in the mid 80's that he put a pad into the board so it road like a "wibulator" with tons of flex. It was no worries about being behind the section, the board would just flex and fly by hard to make sections. I just ended up selling the board because the shape wasn't to my liking when the waves got "big." :o It worked well in small surf. It also says alot that I don't see very many of his boards for sale from private parties, so I guess that people getting them must hang on to them. :?:

Tom Linton aka" Dogman" at Blacks rides a Barto/Pendoflex and swears by them. I borrowed a 5'8" Pendo stand up fish last fall from Patagonia, it was a Lis outline, parabolic epoxy blank with Gephart fins. I had a blast in chest high waves, you could really feel the spring off the bottom turn, the board flew. I didn't kneeride it because the surf was small but if you like those type of outlines I would highly recommend them.

Steve's blog has one photo of a kneeboard, towards the bottom of this page:
http://www.pendo.com/pendo-blog/page/7/

And it say's "Steve makes a variety of kneeboard designs, including squash tails and pintails".

I wonder how the KB fish would compare to Bud's F2K ? - looks like the fins are set further back on the orange board that Kidrock linked to in Mollusk Surf Shop than on an F2K....?

Maybe someone can educate me here, I see some nice but very common looking boards. Were is the flex coming from?

James, yes, the fins on Pendo's boards are further back than on Bud's boards, more like Pavel's.
Curtis, the deck is scooped out like a spoon to within about an 1/8" of the bottom glass then the pad is used to back fill the deck.

CaptKneemo wrote:boards cost a lot. to much to keep buying if you are less than satisfied. inane enough? maybe i should say, gimmicks are only around for a short time. the hula hoop has made a couple of comebacks but, they were short lived too. you either like 'em or you dont, i still dont like hula hoops.

just sayin...

ps. not all boards are for everyone. i believe in the freedom of Choice, all others need not apply.
You with a Hula Hoop, now THAT is some visualisation.
