The basics

Post by ryan »

I was hoping you guys could fill me in on the basics of modern kneeboard design. Dimensions, rocker, foil, bottom and deck shape, rails, tail shape, and fin setup.

How are the "Aussie" boards different from others?

I'm tall and skinny, surfing mostly normal beachbreak. Any thoughts on dimensions?

I know these are loaded questions, but any advice, input, and/or observations are much appreciated.

Thanks- ryan

Hey Beeline. It is mostly short period wind slop, but with dedication it is possible to score decent waves.

I have a bay I make surfboards in and figured I'd give trying a kneeboard a go. With some research and patience it could work. If not, it's a dog and I try again!

Below is a photograph of some local beach break in Marquette, Mi. The wind chills were -20. Thank God for the evolution of rubber!

Hey Beeline. Yeah, after thinking about it and reading your response it would make more sense to get a used board for a starting point and go from there.

How about this: What makes the Aussie style boards different from other types of boards (what are the other types of boards)?

Thanks- ryan

Thanks Beeline! That is very informative and helpful. Now I just need to save my coins and get a used board.
