hello all, I'm a Maldivian bodyboader (for about 18yrs now..) very keen on kneeboarding.
Can anyone recommend a beginner board (shape & size) for me? I'm 5'6" (167cm), 62kg (137 pounds).
There are no local kneeboarders here in Maldives and traveling kneelos are few and far between. Looks like I'm going to have to shape my own board from a 2nd hand longboard.
help me out
ps. something relatively easy to duck dive would be good. (I'm 35yrs old and not getting too much water time these days. Reason: getting bored with just bodyboarding and bodysurfing)

There's no way to get a blank shipped from Australia?
Getting rocker is gonna be really tough... and is super important if you want the board to work better than your sponge. Probably gotta use the nose of the longboard.
Something your height to maybe 5'8" would be best so you can use as much of the longboard as possible
(Since you live in a land of perfect high performance reef waves, and you're "bored" of bodyboarding, a longer board will open up the possibilities of what you can do on a wave... maybe get you back in the water.)
Here's what a longer board with rocker will allow you to do:

Thanks for the quick replies guys.
@kidrock: that's a very detailed drawing. thanks for the pointer
eqkneelo, whats that about reporting to the "white courtesy telephone"? If I didn't know any better I'd say that was a racist remark, eh? But hell, what do i know, I'm just a paranoid islander who smokes too much weed.
Sorry if I was wrong
But yeah thanks heaps for helping out.
I do have a broken longboard about 6' long...it's got a good rocker i think. Safer than spending the dough on bringing a blank for sure.
And don't get me wrong, It's awesome riding perfect, hollow waves and getting barreled on a bodyboard. But the waves aren't perfect everyday. No, not even here and I'm not really a fan of doing quick, jerky maneuvers. Want to see how it feels to be completely out of the water while doing longer drawn out turns

Rippe75,
the 'white curtesy phone' reference is a pop culture reference to the phones which used to be common in airports, people were paged to answer the phone if they had a message that needed to be relayed to them. These days with mobile (cell) phones they have fallen out of use. Trust me it is not a racist remark.
As far as dimensions for a board, check your pm's
Thanks
Albert

rippe75.
the drawings from my attached link are for a board that is perfect for long, drawn out lines and "pocket surfing"...that is, if you like total tuberiding.
it is also the perfect size and shape for your body dimensions. Steve Lis has been and is still recognized as being the best kneeboard shaper in the world for over 40 years.
It would be very simple to strip a longboard and create the shape, given you have all the necessary tools.

"So if you want to kneeboard, find the hollowest waves you can, ride as short of a board as possible and go fast and deep. If you want to slip and slide, twist and jerk, go for air then stand up and do it. Let’s keep kneeboarding sacred."

I'm thinking of getting a white phone just so I can call the prime minister of the Maldives for a surf report. That was some of the funniest stuff I've read on this site, and it wasn't even intentional.
