Single Fin Byrne kneeboard

Post by albert »

album_showpage.php?pic_id=1464

I recently bought this thing off some kid on the street, he had no idea what the thing even was. There was no wax on it. He said he tried to take it out, and lost the fin on it, he was on his way home when I spotted it from my car.

There have been a few posts regarding the board under the photo gallery. There seems to be some speculation that this used to be one of Peter Crawfords old boards. If so I would like to know what kind of fin was on it, I bought a fin for it but it was the cheapest thing I could find.

Thats the pic, I know its not the best, but I should have more later.

Thanks
Albert

oi Chiko

take it around to Byrne and just ask Phil Byrne, Phil used to make quite a few kneelo's in the 80's, lotsa guys in the gong used to ride em including my mates, might look like a PC slab but I think you may find Phil or Dave Byrne might have shaped it.

the fin it used to have was like the one on my 10'3 a big raked demon that would almost curve to the tail

PC slab

Post by hart »

Hey Albert..and Steeno..

It would've been shaped by Phil (I reckon)..Peter could shape, but chose not to because professional shapers could get cleaner lines.

I don't think it was actually PC's personal board..but definately his design. All Peter's at the time used a triangular type of graphic..and his old ones are always hard to come by because he kept all his boards for a very long time..he had quite a quiver.

You can get Peter's authentic single fin shape from 'Fluid Foils' in Ballina.. 0266867858 and speak with Phil Way. He has a replica of a 'Crozier Single Fin'..which was Peter's exclusive template.

I just ordered a couple for some Slab replicas I was commissined to shape..but be careful..they cost about $80 each..but are very well foiled and flexed.

Good luck mate

hart.

Albert,
Gene showed me that board when I was at your place picking up the board for my son Jake. Looks like a good score. Byrne boards everywhere when I went for a surf on that day.

Brendan :D
The only bad surfing day is one where you don't.
