Not the first time Griz.

Everyone came back from Tahiti and MG was all anyone was talking about... and he was one easy floater from possibly winning the title in '07.

Thanks for the history lesson ed but the most recent observation was very recent and the resounding concenseous from judges to competetors to the every day observer and anyone else who never swallowed the long is good thing first time round.......length is running out of friends!

:?

I was agreeing with you... I was saying he's a great surfer. Guy has been turning heads for years. No surprise he did again at this comp.

Back on topic... How tall is Albert? How long are his boards?

Really? I thought Kyle was one score from winning his Third World title?

And if Albert's boards are at or over his height, who would be the last World Champ that rode a board much shorter than his height?
(Not Gavin, Baden, Kyle, or Simon)

Anyway, I thought this thread was about boards for big guys, not Contest trends.

All good, Griz.

Truth is, most guys here in the states, even big guys, ride boards under 6ft.

It's just possible, if you want some more float, and you don't wanna go wider that 25" or thicker than 3", that you can start looking at length as an answer.

I've been trying for years to find equipment that will allow me to surf average surf as well as guys I outweigh by 40lbs. It's tough. Length has helped.

When asked how long a mans legs should be, Abraham Lincoln replied : " Long enough to reach the ground." Far be it from me to put words in his mouth, but I'll wager that if Honest Abe was asked how long a kneeboard should be, he might have replied :" Long enough to enable you to surf the way you want to surf." Or not.

here we go to the tired old thought process where everyone should be riding similar boards and doing similar manuevers to satisfy a judge.
"Return of the Clones" a better title would be "the Death of Creativity and Openmindedness"
i think i'll wait till it comes to Netflix
and Ed....the channel can be a good place to hang out. you won't have far to run 8)

Always had low 5' boards back in the day until I get a 5-10 which was real long then. During the early 80's I was riding 6-6 and 6-10 kneeboards. They were alot narrower than current boards at 21-22 wide. Needed the boards for the waves I was riding and to handle the currents and such.

Now with the current designs I try to stick with 6-0 to 6-2 and about 24 wide with fins forward. I do have one of Simmons 6-5 FP's and doesnt seem too long with the width. Again need it sometimes for the waves, but with the long wide boards it is sometimes difficult to punch under a big one.

I still intertain the idea of the Laird SUP for the big big guys. Isnt it all about having fun and keepin a good wave count. Who gives a *rap what others think!!
