Enlighten me

Post by rippe75 »

Hey guys

I'm quite clueless on this so please share your opinions

I just got this epoxy board: 5'10" x 22 & 1/2" x 2 & 1/2" swallow tail tri fin (FCS)
It's got a very thin, narrow, pointy nose ( 14" )... basically looks like a stand up short board fish (to me).
It doesn't have a lot of nose rocker but it's not a flat board. I ride it with MR-TX (Mark Richards) fins including the stabilizer.

I've only surfed it in weak 1 foot slop.
Any ideas on how the board might perform in bigger/ steeper waves? (Disregarding my surfing ability, of course.)
... Steep take offs? driving bottom turns? going vertical? off the lips? floaters? cut backs?
Time and tide...

the 14" nose you are surfing is not out-of-the-question for a kneeboard that's 22 1/2" wide..but you must be kneeling around 40" back (or more) from the nose not to over-power the straighter planshape lines your nose is creating :)

this is even more important if you have a flatter rocker thru the front 1/3 of yr board that u suggest you have

given the above, you must consider surfing this board off its tail..and this is particularly so should you surf with MR TX rail fins which have a heap of area

hope it makes sense 4u mate :!:

Thanks guys

I surfed it in 2 foot waves yesterday. It went fast and very loose.
I obviously have to surf it a lot more in different conditions to really figure it out

Hey

well, at a guess, it will probably come off the bottom really well and go vertical in bigger waves - but maybe die in the cuttys - depends o n how much of that nose rail you can get engaged when cutting back

Hold on ...... ugh my crystal ball has a fingerprint on it :)

let us know how it goes.

Ya it does come off the bottom real quick and goes vertical.
Will have to get used to that

Forecast for coming Friday looks good! 5-6 feet! :D
Will see how it goes... maybe try different fins.
