fin placement (twin fins)

Post by SamC »

So I was wondering if someone could help me with some dimensions for fin placements on twin fins.

I'm currently making my first kneeboard here at Cal Poly. The board is 5'0"X22". I would ride this board on a smaller or flatter shaped waves. I'm thinking the fin placement would be slightly different from any quad or thruster that I own. I also like my boards more loose (maybe something between a flashpoint thruster and blast fish???).

My guess would be to have the fins halfway between the tail and the flattest part of the rocker, with a 1/8" or less toe-in. Also, should they be about the same distance away from the rails as a three fin setup?

Most pictures of boards that I look at are much longer, so I'm not sure if it's a good idea to go off of them, or to compare to stand-up designs.

Hi Sam, take a look at this post from 2004:

It was an absolute gem on basic fish design with lots of contributions from ksusas most knowledgeable fish and kneeboard shapers.

Have fun!
