Was wondering if anyone was still surfing a Lis Fish anymore? Was thinking of shaping one or similar. Are there any pro's or con's to the design?

Everyone is, kinda.

Most boards seem to be derivatives of the original Lis shape.

Seems that way, anyway.

I have a four fin version of it shaped by John Mel of Freline Design and it works great in all surf.

I'm still one of those dinosaurs that still ride Lis fishes.
I have several twin fin keels and his current quads.
One of the pros of the boards are that they're some of the fastest
boards that I have ever ridden!!
The con would be the lack of getting the boards to go vertical.
But with the quads, that's not so much of a problem.

Agree with Mark. My Fishes (Blast, Blast knock-offs) are my fastest boards. Whereas my trifins are slower, they do go vertical better. I'd give the nod to cutbacks on the Fish too.

i got three pavel fishes and love two of them and have not tried the third yet.

4'11"pavel quad which you can read about in a thread on here

5'3" pavel glass on keel double foil twin. Rails more foiled than 4'11". Fast and really fun in the small conditions I have taken it out in. Hurt my shoulder with it.

5'5" pavel quad fcs2 boxes rails are more foiled out than 5'3". Can't give feedback as I have ridden it. But feels good in the underarm test. Like real good.

Once shoulder heals, can give a better assessment of all three. But for now I would say the of the two I have tried I prefer the 4'11"

BTW I am 6'1" and 200-205

I have 3 Steve Lis fish. One with wood keels and 2 with glassed in quads. They are made for long ,high speed , hollow waves. They ride too stiff in gutless surf. The double foiled , no cant, no toe -in fins really ride in the tube and give the parallel outline super smooth controlled SPEED. The ride is addicting.

Thanks for the feedback. Meeting up with Mark this weekend to look at his boards. I have a blank that I was going to use for another bellyboard but it's looking like the blank won't work for it. But it will work for this board. Starting the outline and some foiling tomorrow night and hopefully finish it on Sunday.

how is the rocker on it?
are all lis fishes very flat rockered?

Yes they are mostly flat, there is a template online that shows one of his early one's as having zero tail rocker and 2" of nose. Mine has 4" of nose and 1" of tail rocker. But I did put a good amount of vee in the tail so the rocker on the rail is closer to 1.5".

Hi Pes78, the flickr link isn't working for me, but I'd like to see you pics.

This was quite a good design thread on shaping fishes from 2004: viewtopic.php?t=655&highlight=markyv

Yeah, I'll try to fix it. But if you want you can go to my instagram @big_kook and see them there. Boards coming along just needs the hot coat and sanding, so maybe I'll get the call this weekend it's done.
