Third fin position for a new board, somebody can help me?

Post by AeroKnee »

Hi guys,I'm trying to make a new board, and I have doubts about the distance from the tail until the third fin(thruster) and the distance from the tail to second ones.I'll try to do this new one with a local surfboard shaper here and i need the maximum informations to give to him.
I'd like to do a 6'1 x23x 3 and my weight is115 kg
Anybody can help me?
thank's and good waves!!! :D

For a fins forward thruster start with the rear fin at half the distance of front fins so if fronts at 17" put the rear at 8 1/2". Good balanced place to start from! Depends on style of board but 16" to 17" up for fronts is about average and for a 6'1" I'd go 17". Also about 1 1/4" off the rail to trailing edge 1/4" to 3/8" toe and about 6 degrees cant. Hope that helps!

What Bryn says works.

Another way to do it is measure distance stringer to one side fin and come back that distance on stringer to front of 3rd fin.

Mine are always 17 1/4; 8 1/2, but that's just been by working with various numbers over the years - no formula involved.

No problem! Look forward to seeing your pics.

Always interesting to see the numbers Red, my current fave is 16 3/4" and 9"!
