Short and Fat?

A kneeboard, not me. I am 5'11" tall but only weigh 145 lbs. I am another newbie shaping and glassing my first board. I am planning on a board 5'0'' long and 4" thick for use in small sloppy mushy surf. I want thickness for volume to be able to catch small low energy waves as soon as possible, and short length to be able to kick with fins on feet. Planning on slight squash tail and twin fins. May take some volume out of the deck for knees.

Thoughts on rail design, fin placement? Thanks!

I think for your size, 4” thick is way too much volume. Don’t think you need more than 3. 23 - 24” wide with very flat rocker should make it paddle easy.

Sounds reasonable. I am currently planning on that width and flat rocker. Thanks!
