" Last weekend I got to attend a wedding in Cabo with some fun uncrowded waves.
Eric Osland was nice enough to let me throw my board in his coffin as my
board bag is somewhere in Indonesia right now. Ed "funnyman" Quinn is over
at Eric's house while he is packing the boards and sees my board. Still
smarting from various exchanges over email earlier in the month, Ed gets an
idea.
He took one of his modeling shots (waist up, no shirt, international
male-style) and had kinko's turn it into a sticker. He dewaxed my front
foot area, slapped on his creatine-enhanced, sweat-glistening model shot and
then gave me a mighty-fine wax job. Flash to day one in Cabo, Eric and I
see Zippers firing, overhead, glassy, 5 guys out and its off to races until
I get my board out of the sock and see what Ed has done. Now I am running
across the sand to the paddle out spot and notice that all the locals,
grommets, old guys etc. hanging on the sand and in the parking lot are
turning their heads sideways to see what the f@cking picture on my board is.
Needless to say, I am now referred to as "the fag on the Spyder" in Cabo -
(keep in mind, I couldn't take the sticker off cuz I wouldn't have any wax
in the front foot area and neither Eric nor I had any wax on the trip).
Next day at 9 palm point rapping with a guy who just pulled up to empty
overheaad rights asking me how it was - just as I launch into the story of
Eric and I on the sets for 2 hours with no one out - the guy looks at my
board and asks, "is that your buddy?".
I f@cking hate Ed Quinn...
