Ha! You are lucky!
I have smashed windows and fed 6" hydrant hook-ups through cars interiors blocking hydrants in NYC
And where do you think said hose is drained when done?

Consider this.. If a fireman was seriously injured or God forbid killed, YOU would share responsibility (legally and morally)

Fire operations are no joke, water is precious. Delayed water has left many firemen in the burn unit. Minutes and seconds of delayed water can turn a tenable position into a death trap.

I think you missed the story. they were parked near the creek (not a posted hydrant zone). i havent been there before but i would bet they werent even in a red zone. what i got from the story was that He parked in the camp ground to surf (after it was evacuated?). the forestry service or fire dept came down and pumped water out of the creek. so if any windows were broken then someone else would be paying. if anything they would have recieved a trespass ticket. And, if a firemans safety was dependant on gettin past the cars there would be no problem breaking the windows or moving the cars (seen it beforee while working as EMT and law enforcement).
Dont get me wrong I totally agree with you when people park in fire zones. they should recieve the punishment to the fullest!

I got to Willow at 7:00 AM and nobody was around. you could smell the
woodsmoke from the fire hanging in the air. The upper parking
area entrance had been coned off and was posted "Emergency Fire Equipment Only".
I sat there for a while and then said "F**K it". There was not a soul around so I drove down and parked in the lower lot.
sounds like a Fire Zone to me
About 30 minutes later we hear this low rumble and
see this long line of big water tank semis start to roll down the road into
the lower parking lot.

One by one they pull into the bottom turnaround and the crews pump
them full with water from the creek. Then they turn around and inch by
each other to make room for the next. And here's our two trucks making
a nice mess of things. We watch em for a while and it looks like they
are coping so we just keep on surfing!!
looks pretty much the same as hydrant obstruction

and I GOT the story, this IS a SURF site

glassy waves scored, fine only 15 dollars

hmmm.. vehicle ticketed (record of same)

what? Fireman injured! Disability and medical filed

lawyer reviews operation a year later (behest of fireman wife)

Liability FOUND! quietly check assets and insurance limits

talk to tanker drivers (sob.. if we coulda moved faster might not have happened)

charges filed in civil court

the DEFENSE
Major score, we're out there! We suit up and paddle out into an empty little wave garden. . . .Well worth the price!!
so how do they FEEL about surfers in Monterey County?

I hate Jury Duty.
