I'm sitting here enjoying a glass of red (I hear it's a good antioxidant) and reading this post feeling pretty good about things. I'm 45, as fit as ever, carrying a little extra weight but nothing to worry about and life is good. Surf-wise like most of you guys, I've got better with age. Although I don't have the stamina I had when I was 25, it has been replaced by strength and experience. One thing I do know absolutely...at this age...if you don't use it, you lose it. For that reason if I don't manage to get into the water...it's into the gym to keep the machinery in working order. I hope I never get to the physical state I see a lot of the non-surfing older guys ambling around the local mall on a Saturday morning.

Just got a email from a frend ( see below)
Here's something to think about. I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing 'fairly well' for my age (I just turned 65). A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, 'Do you think I'll live to be 80?' He asked, 'Do you drink hard liquor, beer or wine?' 'Oh no,' I replied, 'I'm not doing drugs, either!' Then he asked, 'Do you eat steak, prime rib or barbecued ribs? 'I said, 'Not much...my former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!' 'Do you spend a lot of time in the sun playing golf, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?' 'No, I don't,' I said. He asked, 'Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?' 'No,' I said.
He looked at me and said,
'Then, why do you even give a-sh!ttt

Hey Gumby... just kidding of course on that last post.
But since we've resurrected this topic.... I have found that the older I get the more selective I become about which waves I'll go for. I'm definitely not risking some of the hits (aka wipeouts) I used to not care about. Also find lap swimming at least 3 x/week to be a must as getting separated from my board is not the walk in the park it used to be. Mostly interested in just having fun at this point in time.

To many of my surf storys start with.
When I was your age....
I saw (really old legend) surf ________ ...in his prime
It was me and 2 other guys out.....
If I had the board I ride now back then....
Still I dont know if it is a complement
I hope I can do that at your age
