With the averge age of the kneeboarder these days this area should be used to post issues on health matters (surfer's ear, knee surgery, stretches, etc).
jim I had that sinus surgery about 7 years ago, I still snore and my wife thinks that part of my brain was removed, but the frequency of sinus infections has dropped 100% and I am stoked that I did it. I just make sure after every surf I drain my sinuses, pours out like when I was a grom!
The piece of gauze they remove from your sinus cavity via the nose in post op is disgusting looked like a cockroach a BIG cockroach or maybe my wifes right and that was part of my unused brain, I dont know.
red tide destroys me with or without the surgery.
check out this on red tide http://www.surfrider.org/a-z/red_tide.asp
Hey Tom. about that cockroach they removed from your nose. Did you get to keep it as a pet? I have heard that you can train them to do tricks or paint them and wear them as jewelry.
All kidding aside I had an incident with a combo of sinus meds and sudifed about 18 years ago. The doctor prescribed this concoction that was supposed to clear my sinuses. The combo of medications raised my blood pressure to the point that a vessel in my nose burst. The only way short of surgery that the could stop the bleeding was to pack my nostril with about six feet of gauze and hope that this would stop the flow. The gauze was to remain in place for seven days with me flat on my back. It was not a pleasurable experience. When they removed the strip of packing. It felt like they had picked a six foot scab from inside my nose and your right the end of that strip looked like a roach was attached to it.
Well boys I scheduled my surgery for Friday the 13th That way if anything goes, well not so well. I will have something to blame it on.
Hey the surf came up for 10 days in a row and I surfed everyday of it in prep for this month out of the water.
Hey Wayne how did the pictures come out?

Well boys I'm almost four weeks post op and still healing somewhat. The week after surgery was not comfortable. Lets just say, having splints stints and about twenty feet or so of packing stuck up your nose does not make for a restful nights sleep.
The results after all that are that can actually breath through my nose. I have surfed a couple of times but the surf has not been very big or difficult so I haven't spent much time underwater or having the ocean water forced up my nose by a hard wipe out. So far though when I get out of the water a slight tilt of the head forward and all the water sea creatures and sand come pouring out. I'm sure that for most of you this is common stuff like every time you go in the water your nose drains soon after. Sorry if this sounds disgusting to anyone but I don't think that this has ever happened for me before or at least not in the last 20 + years. Its a whole new feeling.
So far so good. If any of you are thinking of having this type of surgery. I say do it. It will improved your life
