turning 60

With the averge age of the kneeboarder these days this area should be used to post issues on health matters (surfer's ear, knee surgery, stretches, etc).

turning 60

Post by gregw »

As I get to the halfway point all I can say is
I'm stoked!!!!!!!!
Turning 60 today I am
Surfing more and better than I ever have
Stand up/knee with same board same session ( no fins)
Vowed to only ride boards my age or less ( 5'4" fish)
Vowed to never be a fat old man longboarder
average session is 3 hours but can go all day
New sport added this year downhill biking

Its all in our minds!!!!!!
Im gonna stay stoked and keep surfing

See you in the water![/img]

Go Greg!!!!! 8)

Happy Birthday! :D

Its always been good to have older guys out there lifting the bar to new heights.
When I was younger I remember wondering if I would still be surfing in the year 2000 [when I was 45]....it would have almost been strange back then....but I'm still getting the same barrels [surf permitting].

I think the 60s & 70s forever changed peoples perspective on ageing....out went the slippers & a pipe....in came the electric guitar, mountain board & Mick Jagger mindset

Happy B-day Greg,

My inspiration comes from guys like Tom Linn, Dave Parkes, Bob Gove, John Mel and John Manss who totally rip well into their 40s, 50s and beyond!

Keep at it!

Congrats to you Greg, being 60 y/o is just all in your head. I'll be 54 in Dec. I may not be surfing as much as when I was in my 20's, but I surf better now then I did back then. Happy Birthday! :D

It's good to see the "stoke" in another brother in the "old guy" club. You got a few years on me (58) but I'd have to say I'm enjoying surfing now as much as I did in my younger years, although I'm not getting wet as much as I would like.
So many of my friends have dropped out do to health problems that I'd have to say that although "It's all in the head" is a good attitude, I'd add it's also in the gym or swimming pool, or where ever to keep our old bod in one piece and surfing.
Happy Birthday Greg!! and many more years in the water to ya'. 8)

Congrats,

I just turned 50 and still love surfing and life. Its all good and who would have thought 30 years ago we would all be still as keen as mustard.
As Neil Luke once said "We are a fortunate Tribe" life is great.

Happy Birthday!

Half way??

Good to see you make it through the first quarter :)

There's hope yet.

This friend of mine has been sixty since I've known him- about ten years.

He started kneeboarding at age 50. !!!

Happy B-Day, Greg! All these years of experience does make the ride sweeter. But watch out for all those land sports.....restrict yourself to just working out to keep your surfing chops at 100%.

May you have many years of wave-induced pleasure.

Just turned 58  and my surfing is just getting better all the time. I'm always (as far as I can tell) the oldest woman in the lineup. What I have noticed about my surfing as the years roll by is this: I am 100% serious about eating right and doing the things I need to do to stay in shape. Pre-session stretching, and a sports drink or a banana keep cramps at bay. I also spend a little more time watching how the waves are breaking before I go in, and have become waaaaaaay more selective about which waves I take off on. Fewer wipeouts and less time in the wash cycle. Energy conservation goes a long way toward longer and more fun/satisfying sessions.
Be who you are and say what you feel.
