My aching Neck!

With the averge age of the kneeboarder these days this area should be used to post issues on health matters (surfer's ear, knee surgery, stretches, etc).

Toofast... is it still kinda tingling and 'burning'... could it be sciatica?

A pinced or otherwise damaged nerve will create this. From what little I know, the place where it's felt is quickly traced back to the source.

The amount of sciatica is a litmus test for my Doc and Physical Therapist when I was dealing with L4-L5 disk issues.

Don't know about the fatigue...

Jim, great to hear you're pushing on through!

Jim,

Glad you saw the second doctor - what a nightmare! Sounds like you're getting the proper care now.

Hope you're able to get back in the water soon.

Toofast, please go get a second opinion! The fatigue things doesn't sound like something to sit on, we'd miss ya!
Jim, sounds like things are working out OK. Best Luck

Thanks for the info Jim... Hope you can get back in the water soon. A few of my friends have mentioned that I could have pinched sciatca nerve. It has gotten better, but I still know something just isn`t right. My wife might be right. I may just have to change doctors. I can`t see a specialist unless my doctor says so.

Toofast, Wrong approach if you're on a HMO. My experience is the only approach is to DEMAND a specialist if you're not getting what you need from your primary.

Jim, just reviewed the thread. Glad to hear the injury got sorted out and you're on the road to recovery. Your experience hits way too close to home. Did the exact same thing a few years back, right on my head while doing an off the lip a bit too late on a closeout at a local beach. Heard the cracks in my neck as I was pile driven into the sand. All I could think about when I read this thread was this could've been me.

Not sure if it's the dislocated right shoulder, subsequent surgery, or years of mouse use, or the head butt with the sand, but a year or so ago I started experiencing occasional numbness in my right arm. Switche to lefty for the mouse which has helped somewhat.

Hey Jim!!

It's been over 6 months since your surgery. Hope that all's well on the road to recovery. How has it been and how are you now?

Hey Brad,

It has been six months and well recovery is slow but steady. My left arm is still very weak but has been improving with daily therapy and it seems that over time it could recover the lost muscle and work as it used to. While my hand is not improving much. It is still pins and needles hyper sensitive sore and weak. My neurologist seems to think that the damage to my spinal chord has basically screwed up the sensory nerves for my hand and they probably will never straiten out, but he adds I could wake up tomorrow and it will have corrected itself and be back to normal. (A Miracle is what they call that.) I have to take pain meds daily to keep on an even keel but when I think about it, it could have been so much worse. I'm walking and talking and able to clean and feed myself. I cant wait to get back in the lineup and have been paddling in the harbor on a regular basis but I have a ways to go. I have attempted to go surf a couple times but my body has let me know I'm not quite ready but I will be back, I have to, surfing is my life. 8)

Jim, thanks for detailed and helpful update; yeah, it doesn't sound like too long before you're back in the water. Then we just have to see the same with Bob Schiff and his back...

Hey Jim!

Missed you at the Cove on Saturday....but Tom told me you're paddling a bit 8) Yes, from where you've come you've got to be stoked to be doing that and to see yourself in the lineup again. Keep your head up with the PT and may you continue to see steady improvement. Oh yeah, praing for a miracle
