Food for maximum surfing

With the averge age of the kneeboarder these days this area should be used to post issues on health matters (surfer's ear, knee surgery, stretches, etc).

Excellent advice from Surfhorn
Eat lots of fresh fruit
Fresh veg, raw or lightly cooked (don't boil the guts out of it like my mum did)
Lots of colours
Go natural, if it comes in a sealed packet off the suprmarket shelf it's probably been processed
Go nuts (not salted and roasted)
Cut out the processed crap they try and force on us through advertising
SURF LOTS
Cut out the white stuff, white rice, white sugar, white flour, pasta, white wine(Reds better, its full of anti oxidants)
Have gooood proteins and gooood fats, basic cell structure says we need fats
SURF LOTS
Enjoy a pizza, burrito, beer, donut or nice rich dessert , but only as an occasional treat. SURF LOTS
Enjoy life. All this from a skinny bastard. 5'10" and 145lb
Everything in moderation but SURF LOTS
Live for the moments that take your breath away.

Whoa!!
I was surprised to see my April post come back to life!
Quick update.
I ended up losing 20 lbs and have kept it off.
I have pretty much had a lifesyle eating change.
Diet is not as strict as back in April but the basics remain.
Carbs are almost 100 % whole grain. Salads and lean meats. Nuts. No juice. No chips. No beer.Watch the sugar/glycemic index.ie simple carbs. It is worse than fat.
Weekends I splurge a little. ie. break some of the rules(but you can't go nuts)
Pre surf I have taken the advice of Craig from Temecula and it has worked wonders for surf energy: banana + half a Clif bar pre surf. Plus a guart of water on the drive towards the coast.
I have gained a couple pounds back but still doing pretty good.
The main downside is that none of my pants fit!
Hope all are getting wet. Hope to see many in Santa Cruz!

Good news Cap that you have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic early on; I was too but family history was against me and now I am a non-injecting diabetic. 8 tablets a day, total of 5 different types of tablet.

I have heard many a time bannanas are the best pre surf food - unfortunately I hate them. :?

With the move to the coast coming up I expect a hell of lot more exercise to enter my life (surfing).
all the best,

Scotty

In OZ we have the Csiro Diet book which is based on GI.

It;s a good read, Unfortunately has aquired an undeserved reputation as a high protein diet.

GI is a good guide as it will tell you the energy release times of different foods. What you expect is not what you get, unless it has been tested in the lab.

Low GI lets the energy out slowly, good for an extended session.

In that regard we have a high fibre food here called ALL Bran. A bowl of this food will give you a steady energy rush for two hours.

for me to lose weight from too much booze which accummulates on the front of my tummy this is an easy diet

about 20 or so apples

when I have a free day to just go surfing

I eat an apple or 2 b4

then more after a surf then surf again then more apples

by the end of the day you are starving but you gut has almost disappeared and the energy from the apple sustains the paddling power during that surf

I LOVE THE APPLE DETOX
