My daughter's eighth grade class at her school is coming back from a mexico trip tonight. They are putting those kids in home quarantine until next wednesday. It is a bit scary but is that the fault of the news organizations. I must say public health officials have been pretty quick about the alerts and instituting a state of emergency in Ca, this tells me they must be a bit worried.

A 2 year old died in Houston today and had travelled from Mexico thru the Texas Valley where I live. A few schools have shut down in the Valley.
Getting on a plane in Mcallen Friday morning that originates in Mexico City. Don't care for the air recirculation systems on the modern planes.

I have over 2,000 middle school, high school and college jazz students......and their friends and families... coming to the
Santa Cruz Jazz Festival on May 8 & 9. I have 6 stages going at the same time, from 8AM - 5 PM. That's a lot of huffing and a puffing.
As president I'm looking at options, checking if my insurance has an 'act of God' clause and keeping my fingers crossed. I've called a board of directors meeting for tonight.
On the positive side, no flu in Santa Cruz county yet. But these bands are coming here from throughout California, Nevada and one from Washington State.

I just heard on KSBW that they are waiting for confirmation on 24 possible cases in Santa Cruz county right now...and, Karri is starting to feel feverish.

Had four schools cancel coming to the SC Jazz Festival today.
At my school, I have always had hand sanitizer available in my band room and wipes for door handles and keyboards.

How come we aren't talking more about the standard influenza which, according to the CDC, kills about 36,000 Americans each year. Sounds a lot scarier than the Swine Flu, but doesn't sell as many newspapers.

plenty of us got the flu during the worlds, I am only just getting over it now, definately the heaviest flu I have ever gotten... it hit me about an hour after my last heat.
some theorise that we got it during the opening ceremony, apparently there were a few people coughing fairly regularly under that hot tent.
