Sunscreen

With the averge age of the kneeboarder these days this area should be used to post issues on health matters (surfer's ear, knee surgery, stretches, etc).

whilst in the states last year I used Bullfrog pump spray and found it worked well on my thinning melon
It is alcahol based so dont drink it
and it does sting on those sensitive parts so be warned

Sad to say, many ingredients in sunscreen including many of the actual screening agents are pro-oxidents and in European tests have shown to be carcinogenic in animals when exposed to UV.

the best bet really is sun BLOCK i.e. zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Ugly but safe and effective. Also, those Mexican pro wrestler masks work pretty well.

Aloe-Gator. It's thick, gooey and clear. It will stay on you face for hours. You need soap and a wash cloth to take the stuff off. I don't know about the cancer part though...

The burning eye issue (sounds like a song title) makes or breaks a sunscreen for me. I don't know why, but some brands sting like hell, and others are fine. Quite often, the more expensive brands seem to be the worst offenders.

Farmland 30+ (generic brand) in the economy pump pack is my choice at the moment.

Hey, now. I'm serious. All you need is your wetsuit, or in the tropics, a long steeved rash guard, and one of these:

(not much more than the cost of a bottle or two of sunscreen)

We could take the eccentricity factor for KB to a whole new level...

sunmask

Post by Burnwater »

Hey Doc,
I've had the same idea for a while now (rasslin masks), just not the cajones to try it. You can buy them on the street in TJ, so the next Baja gathering we should all paddle out "en masse" wearin em. Should clear the lineup pretty quick.
tread lightly, lean forward, leave a clean trail.

Actually saw a photo in a surf mag once of a burly Mexican dude at Puerto laying out a power carve on a 10 foot wave wearing one. I think it might have said he was actually a wrestler but don't remember... Imagine, a whole invasion of mask wearing kneelos descending on some beach at once. HAR!!!

Evening all

In australia we call zink oxide zink cream and its quite a beach/ sport tradition. even as i write Andrew Symmonds is in the field, for the Australian test cricket team playing in Sri Lanka, covered in the stuff.

We have different coloured varities to dazzle the kids into wearing it - rainbow coloured faces!

My colour of choice is blue - think mel gibson, william wallace and Brave Heart - celtic warrior blue

wear a helmet, (black like me) blue zink and when you take off deep inside to out place even the long boarders, the sound and image of you screamin across the face at any potential drop ins will disturb - doesnt matter cos nobody really talks to kbs anyway

A. YOU GET WAVES
B. NO SUNBURN
C. NON TOXIC

METHOD TO THE MADNESS

cheers

Dorje,
I don't think I surf well enough to pull off a look like that, but I'm sure it would mke quite an impression. You go with the kilt too?
