Man O’ War Health Update
Mark Wessling, aka Man O’ War, a few weeks ago developed a sore throat, chest congestion and fatigue that seemed unusually resistant. Upon seeing the doctor, the blood test was quick and decisive: Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Mark was immediately hospitalized and his full-on chemotherapy begins tomorrow, as well as a bone marrow transplant planned shortly thereafter (now accomplished with stem cells grown from a matched sibling blood sample!). His hospitalization is estimated at one month.
Being a pastor for about 30 years, Mark has worked closely with others battling cancer; now he is himself is called onto that same battlefield. I spoke with him this afternoon and his attitude is very positive beginning his treatment. He knows he is in God’s hands, working through and beyond a capable Miami medical staff, and he covets your prayers. As his brother, I, too, am so appreciative for those prayers. He also has the strong support of his wife, Ruth, and his three adult children.
But we all want to see him back to full health, restored to his family and flock, and ripping once again on his beloved flex spoon!

If you’d like a glimpse of him in his “other life” in ministry to others, including a short introductory video by Mark himself (scroll down); you might enjoy this.

Gratefully,
Scott Wessling

I've never had the pleasure of meeting with MOW but from following his posts for some time on this site and the flexspoon forum I've learned enough to know he's without question one of the good guys.
With a positive attitude supplemented with support from family, friends and everyone in the KSUSA community you're as well armed for this battle as anyone can be. Every surfer knows that sometimes you get caught inside and cop a few on the head, but preparation, patience and persistence will eventually see you paddle back out.
Clan McKnee will be including you in our prayers MOW.

Mark, I'm praying for you, and your family buddy, things that happen "right out of the blue" really makes you think of what God has planned.
I am a traveller of both time and space, a weaver in and out of dreams, I see worlds seldom seen.
