Tom Way not one but two broken legs

With the averge age of the kneeboarder these days this area should be used to post issues on health matters (surfer's ear, knee surgery, stretches, etc).

Tom Way not one but two broken legs

Post by stevea »

Good friend and fellow kneeboard surfer Tom Way who resides in Java ,Indonesia has had a horrific motor bike accident resulting in two broken legs above the knee
Tom is maintaing a typically English stiff upper lip and a high degree of Indo resilience as he faces what i guess will be heaps of surgery and a long period in recovery
The internet is allowing him to communicate from his hospital bed with family and friends ,and maybe i,m out of line posting this but i figure he could do with support and encouragement from the kneelo community
Tom has been a regular poster on KSUSA ,his posts are well worth the effort in reading as he has dabbled in all things kneeboard surfing ,his hollow wooden kneeboards are works of art ,and he has discovered many new surf spots in Indonesia ,but mostly he is an all round great guy with the energy and enthusiasm of a grommet

That's horrible! I'm stunned! Tom is such a good driver, too. He is the man when it comes to road tripping in Java. Such a good guide. But it's crazy over there.

Femur fractures bleed all to easily, but to have two at one time, wow! I'm so glad that you're still with us there, Tom. Our thoughts are with you, wishing you a very speedy recovery.

I hope Tom can keep us updated with occasional progress reports. We're hoping/praying for a full recovery like Tom Backer had after his injury!

Tom we've never met, but I like many others have really enjoyed your posts to the site. Praying for a total recovery for you. The waves will still be firing when you're back at it.

Peace and patience to you,

This is horrible news! I loved seeing all of those shots of Tom charging spacious, heavenly-blue Indo barrels. I wish you the best in your recovery, Tom. God bless! Heal up soon. Surely Indo's lineups must be missing your wave riding.

Sincerely,

Marcus Bockman

Dear all, I haven't been able to login to ksusa for a while so imagine my surprise when I took a look just now and saw all these messages. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

I'm in Singapore now. They patched me up and probably saved my life in Indo, but things went down hill a bit after that with weird blood transfusion reactions and then serious clots in both legs. I'm getting stronger now and tomorrow I'll go in to surgery to reconnect my left femur (there's a 14 cm bit of bone missing after it got launched out of my leg into the bush).

Fingers crossed things go well tomorrow. I'll update after that.

Thanks again for all the kind messages :D

p.s. don't let your sons and daughters ride motorcycles!

thats fuked up tom, but at least your still with us, when you say 14cm bit of bone, you do mean a splinter and not an entire chunk? Also glad to hear your in Singapore being looked after, & hope you heal well mate
