Just scroll down and click on the rock 1961.

really valuable footage; thanks! Loved the shot of the guy with the beaver tail wetsuit. These guys were the hot locals of their day, I imagine. Though small in the video, Big Rock was still a hard place to long board well back then.

I don't know if Bill Andrews is a member of our site or not. Bill is both a KB'er and footie. He owned P.B. Surfshop at the corner of P.B. Drive and Mission Blvd in San Diego in the late 60's and 70's. He's still a fixture in the line up in the La Jolla area...and be must be pushing 60+ I saw him at LJ Shores on his KB last winter get the set wave of the day off Bathroom Rights. It was 8+ on take off, he screamed past me in the hook as I duck dived 5 feet in front of him. Great to see him, I gave a lound hoot as went by and when he paddled back out.

Bill Andrews is 66 yrs old. Unfortunatly he's not a member of this site, but he mostly KB's because he says he has a bad back. His board is shaped by another local Bob Mitsven. You know him yogi. Bill made the cover of Surfer mag surfing Blacks in the early 60's by a photo by Ron Stoner! Bill usually drives around in his van, going from Windansea, Shores, Hospitals, taking pics for his website. I've heard him say "I'd rather be a 1/2 man surfing the La Jolla reefs, than a whole man surfing Tourmaline" hahaha.

Thanks Mark. I agree with Bill's philosophy 100%! Mitsven has made me two Fish 2000’s, a great shape for S.D. waves.

Back then you lose your board you really LOSE YOUR BOARD. Something about the super 8 stuff is magic and so precious. I had over 30 3 minute super color 8 rolls shot on my Yaschica movie camers I shot after high school. It was of friends and unknown surfers and kneelos from 74 to 79. Laguna, Torrey Pines, Wedge even Bolsa Chica before the parking lots and the Cliffs before the meters. at least one roll was in La Jolla but I forget where. Camera had speeds of 24, 36 and another slow speed. Lots of slo motion Loved that camera. The film was lost when a friend offered to transfer it to video. What a loss. , The camera was stolen in San Luis Obispo from a church I slept in overnite . Thanks for sharing this stuff. Its raw, grainy and BEAUTIFUL!
