Kneeboarder @ Skeleton Bay

Post by TimM »

Came across this and there's a fair amount of footage of an unknown Kneeboarder getting some decent ones at what must now be one of the worlds most sought after waves.. Heard it was a bit over-run up there last week for a much bigger swell.. It is an amazing wave though

Is that a hard spot to get to? Logistical nightmare from LAX? Looks like waves here at home on steroids.

Certainly do-able.. You would probably have to fly into SA then catch a connecting flight to Windhoek in Namibia. From there either rent a vehicle (4x4 for sand) and drive the 300km+ to Walvis Bay where the spot is situated. There is a small landing strip there but I'm not sure what the set-up is with vehicle hire there though..

Needs a really big west swell to get in there so the fetch needs to be fairly high up compared to our normal South Atlantic storm patterns but there are a few of these per year from around this time. Winds would generally be ok with some stiff offshores..

To be perfectly honest though with the amount of guys going up for green light conditions South Africa has a lot more to offer along its coastline for way better value and consistency.. hard to go wrong with where our currency is at..

Tim's right! I checked and you get 10.67 Rand for a buck :!: I've been to SA x 3 for work stuff and the 1st time you only got 6.5 Rand for a buck...and I thought that was awesome. Biggest expenses are getting there and your car, but then you'll stay where you want and eat what you want and not worry about the $ 8)

Def. Gigs, this and a few other vids have been floating around for a week or two. The swell direction must have been a bit wrong on this small day as the rides didn't appear to be as long as usual haha
once you've had black you'll never go back!!!
