USSF Oceanside Contest, June 2004, Kneeboard Video Highlites

Post by Scott »

I've had this short clips finished for some time, but didn't think until recently to post them to "my briefcase" at Yahoo. The preliminaries clip is about 50 seconds. The finals highlite clip is about 2 minutes. However, both clips are pretty big--I don't understand much about how to do real good compression.

I have both clips in high resolution Windows Media File format, and that's the best for those of you with very wide, fast bandwidth. Then I also placed them in somewhat smaller, lower resolution Real Video clips. In any case, it'll be tough for you guys with dial-up modems.

The contest featured average contest waves, but way-above-average comraderie, and I'll always have great memories of that day! I got knocked out right away in the first round and had a blast sitting around talking and filming. Barry, Ed, Tom, Bill and the rest surfed those waves really well and the beach crew had lots to hoot about.

The link to paste into your browser is:

Enjoy. I hope to do better at the Santa Cruz Gathering in November (filming, that is, not competing).

The link worked for me last night. I downloaded both the high res videos.

Great work. I'd love to see more. Keep them coming.

K-Man,

I think it's loading after you click on it, but it may take you quite awhile since the files are big. Once they load, then I believe your movie viewer will pop up ready to go. Give it some time...go surf for long session and come to see what you've got.

Looked like slow response from the server last night. For better results and repeat viewing, right-click on the link and select "Save Target As" to save the video file to your PC. When done you can open the file and view with your media player.

Great job Scott. Really cool.
I put a lot of video on the web and get good results using QuickTime with the following specs.

VIDEO
Width: 240
Height: 180
Colors: Millions+
Frame rate: 15fps
Compression: Sorenson Video 3

AUDIO:
Sample rate: 22.05 kHz
Channels: Mono
Sample size: 16bit
Compression: QDesign Music 2

Here's an example if you'd like to check out image and sound quality.
http://www.magictanla.com/magicTanVideo10.html
It's 1:35min and 8.6MB, set to stream.

I make these clips really easily with iMovie on my Mac, but if you're on a PC you can do it with QuickTime Pro, $30 at the Apple website
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

Looking forward to seeing more. :-)
