Hi Bruce
does that mean only kneelos rely on the shapers advice?
does that mean there are too many stand up shapers?
does that mean university educated in anthropology and sociology punters like myself get it wrong about the power of the media?
is that why John Howard has the message "mainstream values" plastered on the lectern during his 10 years in power speeches...and the media spin did not help him when it came to manipulation of info and photos during the Tampa situation for instance?
we dont shape mate but to be honest... i might be apart othe group that can put cash in the hand of a shaper..but ive been under the impression here due to a number of threads that its the shapers who should advise us!
to bad this aint a pub for the conversation

This is my point!
I am not questioning your qualifications (although I may now question your grammar seeing you make the 'uni' point)
Save the comments about the Prime Minister for another forum..or site for that matter
This is a surfing site about kneeboarders
We are not led by any 'media' exposure and never have been..why then are some of us obsessed by it and continuingly refer to 'it'?
And please remember that if we as individuals never bought a gossip magazine or listened/ watched commercial radio/ television that there would be no media to start with
My point is, its all about US..not THEM
go figure
with regards
hart

But here is another take on the fins forward Aussie tri - who amongst us wouldn't admit to a slight hankering to paddle out on one.
Thx for the post and pic
You're so right..who wouldn't want to take this board out?
But I was being ironic in my question about 'Aussie Tri'
Australian Trifin Kneeboards have been around since the late 70's (courtesy of Peter Crawford) and are to be NOTED as distinct from Simon Anderson's Thruster early 80's (which similarly comprises 3 fins)
..hence the original question

ps
for the purists (me included) your new flashpoint = thruster
and it doesn't matter where you live at all

Hi Bruce
I was picking up on your irony, that is why I posted a picture of a waveski, problem was it was so bloody small maybe you didn't notice the other skis in the background, maybe you did.
I wonder if kneeboarders have a bit more in common with waveskis than we might care to admit, certainly both have theie centre of gravity more towards the middle of their 'craft' than a shortboard.

Hi Skansand
A waveski is a sit on type 'yak' paddled onto waves and can handle decent surf. Don't see as many in the water these days. I posted the pic because they seemed to be some similarity in their fin placement to fins forward kneeboards.

I also suprised to note that the company offers a kneeboard:

Beeline,
I noticed that you traded your quad for a tri.
2 years ago I decided to give quads a tri (sic) just for a change.
Before that I surfed like you - upright, off the tail, concentrating on working the fins, particularly the back fin. After a few months on the quad I discovered I'd learned to use my rail, especialy that part just in front of the knees. For the first time in my life I could fathom how a guy could ride a slab without spinning it out.
I still ride off the tail and upright, but I've learnt to bring the rail more into the equation. Riding a quad has opened a few doors for me. I'd highly recommend it if you want to take your surfing down another path - not better or worse, just differerent.
I noticed a few generalisations re Parke's quads.
I just had the pleasure of a few days of Parksey's company. Apart from the guy tearing my local beach break apart - you watch him from the back of the wave and all you see is lip whack after lip whack after lip whack after lip whack (making me feel totally inadaquate ) I noticed he's refined his rocker to a point where he was catching waves that I would have called impossible to catch.
What's this got to do with fin position?
Parkes, like most excellent shapers, will place the fins to suit the surfer and design the rocker, the bottom contours and the rest of the board to suit.

Only caught this one now due to another interesting post from Zorrohart wrote:[

But please forgive me fellow kneelos if I consider that we as whole people can happily, and only relatively occasional, digress of a topic, with subtle implications to the topic, to consider the wider world in which we live and its connections to our love of kneeloing
I often think one or two of you may be interested
and Bruce, the political stuff was rhetorical
the surfing questions were directed
