Throwing down
Malaga just moved from his town on the Mediterranean coast to the NW coast of Spain, Galicia -- like going from Galveston to Hatteras. Needless to say, he's stoked. He sent this but might need some wisdom from the ksusa community:
A story from the water today. I'm out on my kneeboard, headed for the peak at a well known and very radical spot. This bodyboarder who's famous around here (and aggressive) paddles by and sees this younger kid checking out my board and says to him, "Haven't you ever seen one of those? It's a paipo but you ride it on your knees." And adds, "Yeah, they're for kooks." Of course, I'm right there and hear every word. I felt like going off on him and telling him a couple things about kneeboarding and his piece of @%$* bodyboard, but this guy's the No. 1 dropknee sponger in the nation, so I decided to keep quiet. I know what I'm capable of.
Aside from that, everything's OK. I'm getting good surf every day and getting used to my new friends and assignment (I'm an officer in the Navy). So that's it. Take care. I'll try to charge and do a good job of representing the international sport of kneeboarding here.

Malaga,
see the funny side my man.
you've been called a kook by someone who participates in a form of surfing that almost any surfer/kneeboarder can attain a reasonable level of competency in after 1 surf.
hell i had a go of one way back in the 90's after 1 surf i could do 360's,barrel rolls and airs.no wonder all the kids from inland ride em
having said that i have surfed with Mike Stewart in Tahiti
awesome.
as Albert said ignore this little man.

thats the best way to put it. they won't be talking like that after you come out of a barrel. i've gotten nasty stinkeye/sideways glances and under the breath muttering - and then you pull behind the lip on what looks like a crappy wave, come flying out, and people are are a lot more receptive.surfhorn wrote:Just takes one barrel on a KB and everyone is your friend.

malaga,
thanks for keepin the mucho aloha that kneeboarders have. Often you will find you are the only kneelo out there, and after a few barrels, just look at the the faces of the hardcore, they will have the smiles and will watch you ride, cuz they appriecate good surfing and tuberides. That will put the grin on your face and pretty soon everyone is stoked, pass it on.
PS If we cared what everyone thinks we would be conforming clones like them
Kneelo=Lone wolf!! So howl at the moon from inside the greenroom!
