You can still get back in with a DL. I was just down 2 weeks ago and I had my passport but the 2 guys I was with did not. No problem.

PS you going to be surfing later this week in the AM?

Passports will be required of all US citizens as of January 1, 2008 (including children). Right now, be sure everyone has ID coming back in the country.

I haven't been to Baja in several years, but I gotta agree...the place is dangerous. Always has been. But in the last few years, you can now add meth to the mixture.

Desperate criminals are bad, but desperate tweaker criminals in Mexico is similar to playing Russian Roulette with a loaded gun.

It seems as if it really makes no difference if you're at K38, Rosarito, San Miguel or any of the harder-to-reach spots. Visiting gringos are regularly getting beaten and/or robbed in Baja. It's a fact of life.

The Orange Kneeboarder has the entire peninsula wired, I bet. I'd be interested in hearing about some of his experiences, and how he's handled them in the past

I love Surfing Baja, except for the occasional stop off at K38 I dont usually surf north or Puerto Nuevo due to the bad vibes from the local and traveling policia 8) 8) south of Puerto thou is pretty kewl and havent had any local trouble in decades. but dont tell anyone heh heh

Question for southern baja vets. Is Cabo worth a quick 3 to 4 day trip. I have heard mixed things about the breaks. Zippers is good but crowded, shipwrecks can be fun etc. Todos can be good as well. What have peoples experiences been?

Good day gents. We've generally gone spring/early summer,or around oct.Summer in s.baja is beyond hot. That will knock the crowd down a bit.. Summer prices are a pretty good deal, air condit.a necessity.
San jose del cabo is a nice quiet family town,as compared to cabo, which can be a bit whacked out.Zippers, old mans, the rock are a short drive. And there are a few other reefs going toward cabo.Local surfshops are helpful. They do get crowded, especially when small.Bigger is better, spreads out the crowd.
The east cape, shipwrecks, nine palms, are a short ride, depends on if the road has been graded.Check to be sure that insurance will cover using that rd.There are some real horror stories about that subject.

cheers
