Has anyone had a look at the link for surf in Ireland that Malaga posted in the photo gallery??

http://www.dreamcatcherproductions.ie/previewflv.htm

... and I noticed the cover of a local (indon) magazine in the shops a few days ago,

http://www.surf-time.com/features/detail/75.htm

Seems that big waves are popping up all over the place! Any kneeriders game :?:

Seemed to be lot of guys in the water trying to paddle in. Having a jet ski buzzing around with so many in the water is F#$& dangerous

i spent a while in eire a few years back.one of my favourite places.
surfed some of the biggest waves i have ridden there to(see the left that fitzy surfs in Litmus.surfed here around the same size on my own with my horrified girlfriend watching on  ).
i actually got to surf all the waves in the above mentioned flick :)
lived in a share house with my maniac irish mate who almost always surfs alone,he has the tides and swell info in his head and wont write any of it down in case his younger brother finds it  .
found and surfed pointbreaks with local farmers who'd never seen the points adjoining their properties ridden coming to watch.
had other surfers tail our car trying to find spots we had sussed and drove like rally drivers to get away
drank an ocean of guiness.

yeah Malaga i'd be going to eire if i were you 8) .

oh yeah,
those guys towing in that footage are weak as piss.
its not that big and there is alot of surfing in front of the tube  rather than in it.
attitudes like that are going to lead to people rich enough to own jetski's being the only ones getting set waves.

Hey Ross, how did you get on at that left when it was that big? Many makeable ones? When did you live in Ireland? I lived in Innischrone in mayo for the winter season 2002. There truly are some magic waves out there once you start to get the winds, tides and swell direction sussed.

hey tomway,
that left was the first surf i had off the plane after i arrived in Dublin.not to hard to find actually.
probably caught about 8-10 waves in that session with about a 50% sucsess rate  very violent wave that one.your sort of pulling in as you bottom turn,so as you'd imagine after 3-4 failed tube rides at that size you feel fairly flogged

i was there for the autumn/winter of 2001 and i also was living in Mayo, down in westport.so we were nearly nieghbours.my irish mate is living up in Polecheeney nowadays.Mayo is awsome for waves eh?like you said though if you dont have it sussed your getting nothing

maybe you've met my mate Anthony, kind of stupid lookin goofyfooter riding andrew carter boards fro SA?

Hi Ross,

Yeah, I know an Anthony from westport. Quite short, friendly, and mellow. Very mellow! He came round a few times while I was in innishcrone and both times I ended up suffering memory loss! Extremely good bloke. If you knew Anthony you must have surfed the 'slab' (a little north from where you were, under some cliffs.) That's a nice kneeboard wave eh? Always really reminded me of low-tide bingin when it was small and padang when it was big. Pretty sketchy with those caves though as the tide came up. Yes... for a kneelo with a bit of time on their hands Ireland is definitely a very good place.

tomway,
stoked you met Ant.
i met him in seal point in South Africa and he travelled the east coast with us.
i didnt realise how stoned he was the whole time we were in SA till i got to Ireland where Transkie gold is a little thin on the ground  .
he was incapable of making any decision or quick movements
we nearly came to blows on many occasions
i had 2 surfboards made in J-bay and Ant took em home with him to sell for me. when i got to Westport they were already sold for three times what i paid for them 8).
when it came time for me to leave Ireland,he came speeding home the evening before we shot through claiming the waves at #*^# were pumping.i had all my s*&^ packed and wasnt keen to unpack it again.

then i realised i probably wouldnt see the knuckle head for a long time.

so my last evening in Eire was spent surfing our local lefthander into the darkness.better than i had ever surfed it before, just me and him out.

oh and nah i never scored the slab, though we checked it once or twice.he had only just sussed it out when i was there.pretty similar to alot of waves in my area from what i saw.

ps if he knew you were a kneelo i'm suprised he didnt mention he knew me as we were pretty good mates for a few years.then again he's a dopey unit

Two reasons to go to eire if you're in the area. Can't name the spots out of respect for the locals, but you'll quickly find some great surf if you spend any amount of time there.

Ross maybe you'll recognise these waves? This one was at the end of my garden. A right point that broke on a funny swell direction that was hard to predict. As a result it was often empty. We used to run across the frosty grass in the morning. Surf for a few hours. Run back and have a hot shower still suited up. Down a couple of cups of tea, then paddle out again. BrrRrrr :D

Another right reef with a ledgy takeoff, a long tube and frequent dolphin visitors.
