Could the experienced Baja Kneeboarders suggest a good safe family campground in Northern Baja?
We would like to take our 10 year old twins camping and surfing in Baja if anybody has suggestions or warnings we would really appreciate it.
This could also turn into a Baja Gathering.

Thanks
Curtis

C.P.,

It's been quite a few years since I've visited, but I've always had good luck at La Fonda and Abreojos. The people are friendly and the crowds are minimal. 8)

I DON'T recommend Cuatro Casas or San Miguel (see reasons stated above).

There are many others, but I'm sure I would be castigated for mentioning them on a public site.

I'm guessing you're from SD, and already know about many of the problems inherent in Baja. BE CAREFUL, as Baja Norte has become one of the Tweaker capitals of the world. White tweakers are bad, but combine Meth and poverty and you get a surf trip gone bad in a hurry

Scott,

We are looking for a short trip close by. No father south than Ensenada and just for a day or two.

We have had a few P.M. warnings about non-family environments.

i know of a couple spots that i go to that i have never had any problems. 1 is salsipuedes between rosorito and ensenada. 2 is san miguel, there is camping on the beach and there are trailors and houses there for rent there is also a restraunt, bar, and convience store there too. i would say baja malibu or la fonda but have been harrased by local cops there past few times. another good place is santo thomas but its a bit off the beaten path. Ill be at san miguel next week

Baja Seasons middle of La Salina beach. Gated R.V. and tent park, power, pool, Restaurant, pool etc. Pricey but secure and central to all surf. Probably the worst beachbreak but you generally have it to yourself. Past La Fonda exit, past La mision beach, next beach before new harbor. 20 min. to ensenada, 25 min to rosarito. The entrance is off the toll rd. just after the pedestrian bridge.
I have found sunrise to 2 or 3pm travel times arstart to arie safest. Then the trouble makers start to awaken.

Curtis...every spot north of Ensenada will be crowded...San Miguel has facilities, but strong local crew, the wave's there not for young grom's. lot's of urchin's too! I just got back from further south, Canejo, Rincon, and Casa's empty waves except at casa's...you can find empty waves usually south of Colnet, San Quintin,,,drive on dirt /camp on the point's...p.m. me if you need directions, map's etc.....I can hook you and the kid's up!!!!

Camping in Baja

C.P., You can camp on most beaches for free. But camping ion many beaches can be sketchy-between thieves guns and authorities with guns, sooner or later you are bound to meet up with misfortune. But with that said, there are tons of campgrounds that charge only a few bucks a night and have facilities and a certain degree of security. In Salsipuedes, there are private campgrounds right in front of the break in a grove of olive trees. The cost is about $10 a day-the same charge for parking even if yoy don't camp. But, a place that I like (The rest of San Diego knows also) is Punta San Jose, where you can camp on the cliffs over the surf, but it's not really a good place for small children. :)

We have received some very informative post, maybe we will leave the camping for north of the border. Going south a rented house may be the best.

Thanks guys
