New Caledonia

Post by kripchik »

Hey Guys

I am heading off to New Caledonia, Noumea, in April. I am going to compete in my other sporting interest - Judo, but hope to get a little surfing in. Has anyone been and what was it like? Do I need to take a gun as well?

Cheers
Sophia

Sophia,
Turtle, Blue and a bunch of PI guys have been there last 2 years. Chat to them.
I think you surf reef passes, so you need a boat to get to the spots. Unlikely to need a gun, though, because it doesn't often get big.

Check out http://www.wannasurf.com/spot/Australia ... index.html

Ask to swap boards next time you see Chickenman and me out at Wooly or Kittys. Always good to feel something different.

Web site for NC

Haven't been to New Caledonia but there is a surf travel web site with some good info on the place. Check out www.wannasurf.com. Go to the Australasia section. Also I believe there is a Surf Report available. From what I've read and heard all the breaks are located miles on barrier reef passes far, far from shore, many miles out to sea, so a boat is must (which also means it is expensive to surf there). But heck, if you're already there anyway might as well check it out at least once or twice!
