Been day dreaming lately about warm water and boat trips that I don't have the dough or the freedom to go on  . I saw a boat trip to North western australia advertised on Wavehunters looked pretty awesome. You locals have any info on that neck of the woods or should I say desert. Looks like Baja but with Indian ocean swells and warmer water.

Stemple,

Don't know where they got the Montebello Islands. The map on the website shows a pretty common route up Western Australia that includes Red Bluff, Gnarloo, Shark Bay, Monkey Mia, Exmouth. It's not to say that it won't be a good trip - the region is absolutely sensational and often gets good waves. The fishing's really good and the first two spots are 2 of the sharkiest regions in Australia, as well as having the rep of being really heavy waves. Looks like the surf pics are Red Bluff region (from the bluff in the background). There are surfers who travel to the region and camp in the desert waiting for swell.

There's more info here:

TIMO,

Sounds like you are familiar with the area. Is it possible to do that area as camping trip or is a boat more essential to get to good quality surf?. Is renting a camper van in Perth and driving up the coast an viable travel option?.
