Coming to Oahu next week...

I'll be in Oahu next week, 10/12 - 10/19 - staying West Side.

The swell forecast ain't the greatest, but it does look like a bit of South for next week. :D

I'm bringing my wife Jenny - any suggestions for stuff that she would like to do when the surf's flat? (other than snorkeling and canoeing...) Places to eat? Stuff like that?

:P

Neither of these are very creative, out-of-the-box stuff, but things my wife and both enjoyed:

1) Hike inside Diamond Head crater out to the gun turret overlooks of Waikiki and the whole South Shore. Really fun.

2) I've also found the Pearl Harbor cruise, though touristy, a fairly unforgettable experience.

3) Buy a new Blast off Bud. Okay, maybe my wife didn't find that enjoyable to the same extent I did...

In the northern hemisphere, models show another near gale system passing the longitude of Hawaii near 40°N next Monday, that could make for a similar short-lived, short-period NNW to N episode around next Wednesday into Thursday. Moderate to fresh trades should keep windswell in the moderate category mid week.

Long range forecasts are subject to major revisions.

even when it's not optimal (for Oahu) it can still be damn good! don't relegate urself to the booze cruise just yet

Thanks Mike... you're giving me hope... :D

Scott - she had mentioned the Pearl Harbor thing, and I sort of shot that down... but may reconsider if I need to score some points :P :P I hate touristy stuff

I am also going to Oahu this December to celebrate my 50th birthday. I will stay on the North shore, but I will make the drive to Honolulu to my two favorite places to eat:
Ono Hawaiian Foods (726 Kapahulu Ave.) and for desert just down the street Leonard’s Bakery for fresh Malasadas (933 Kapahula Ave.)
Hope you have a great trip.

1)Bishop Museum

2)Chinatown Downtown Honolulu

3)Thrift shore shopping for Aloha wear. Tons of selection!

4)Look for any plate lunch truck wagons. My favorites used to be a cart called Tsukenju; (sic) which used to hang around town in Kakaako.

5) Lion Coffee store.

Randy, the Temple is pretty cool. Kinda weird driving through a cemetery to get to it. It is in Kaneohe. http://www.byodo-in.com/

Randy,

Here is a good plan :D

First a trip to Pearl Harbor, historic and a solemn visit
Then on to Punchbowl, really neat cemetary :(
Then we go to the east side for a ride through The Valley of the Temples, some really cool gravestones. :?
Catching a theme here :?:
Just to finish on a light note, some really fun shopping with the missus at Hilo Hatties, for those matching Aloha outfits :D

Seriously though, call me when you get here, Jamie ( Bob's son ) lives at Sunset Pt and gives me the conditions report before I drive up, saves on the gas if the Westside is a better call.

Possibly Hale Nalu, it's a surf shop on the the Westside across the street from the the green storeand L&L drive in.

I'll call my shaper at Makaha and see if he has a connect.
