New Jersey visit+ surf?

Post by sf_firestarter »

Hey Jersey Shore Crew,

I will be on the Middletown on the North Jesey Shore visiting the girlfriends family for the first time so I'll seriously be in need of a daily surf break. Their home is 5 minutes from Monmouth Beach. I'm planning to bring fins, hand plane and surf-mat as not much swell is predicted.

Any of you have advice for getting waves in the area?

SF if you can drive you can surf a couple famous places. North of you is Sandy Hook State Park. It's a right point. South of you is a real quality wave, Manasquan Inlet. Surf the north side of the jetty. That place can be mellow, or it can break your board with no problem. Of course your going to have to have the luck of a swell while your there. Parking is tough in the summer, but it should be easier now and no more beach tags for the year. I never went to NJ during the summer, a real hell hole. Good luck. Keep an eye on the water temp. Not sure when your going, but it gets a hell of a lot colder than NorCal.

Mike, thanks for the info. I'll be there next week and it looks like water temps are around 67 per Surfline. I'm crossing my fingers for swell but warm water and even a modest swell and I would be stoked.

A few lesser known spots with jetties that break like Manasquan but no crowds:

Sea Girt, near the Wreck Pond outfall/old lighthouse (park at the east end of the Terrace)

Ocean Grove/Asbury Park line at Wellesley Lake outfall

Shark River Inlet

Don't tell them who sent ya 8)
