Anybody familiar with surfing on Okinawa? I'm headed out that way this summer and trying to gather as much surf information as possible before I depart. Any tips, information, or points of contact would be very much appreciated.

Lots of Okinawa YouTube and Vimeo videos of surf, some of it epic and big, but not a lot of specific written information. It's definitely off the beaten path for most surf travelers but seems like they get plenty of surf...

Thanks in advance. Hope you are getting waves.

I don't know about that island, but if you're getting skunked don't forget that Bali is less than 7 hours away! It's seven hours from the main island of Japan so it's got to be considerably less from that far south. Summer in the northern hemisphere is prime time for Indo!

that does look good!
an island in the middle of the pacific, it must pick up lots of swell. plus, there are plenty of fighter jets around. stick one in the carpark and instant offshores!

Fellas-

Thanks for the info and links.

Seems like lots of surf in Okinawa with plenty of options... from mush burgers to big reef surf (like the Dry Reef and Snake Wine video).

I'll keep you posted on what I discover and surf.

There's a right point (reef bottom) called Tengan Pier that goes off. Up in a Bay so I think there's got to be a typhoon or a major swell event to happen. Sunabe seawall geys good as well.
