Maui in July

Hey guys, and or gals,

I'm doing a family trip to Maui in July.
Should I bring boards, or is it flat in summer?
I've never been to Hawaii, save a stop over in Honolulu for a couple of hours in 1997.

TIA,
Dean, aka Landlocked

Hi Dean,

If no one in the know sees your query and posts a reply, PM me and I can get you in touch with a nice kneelo on Maui who knows the whole scoop.

LL of NC,
July on Maui offers south swells from south pacific coming up form off of New Zealand. Summer does not have the size and power of Hawaiian winter waves but lots of fun size waves. If you crave the waves, then I would bring a board. An all around would do. Or something more suited for 2 to 6 feet faces would probably find the most use. I use my small wave board 80% of the time during summer. Unfortunately I just sold my loaner board.
If you have not made reservations yet and surfing is a priority, then I would stay in the Lahaina to Maalaea area. But you should also consider the needs of your family if traveling with them.
I will be pretty tied up this July with visiting family myself but will connect with you via PM for more details.
