Hey Everyone
I will definately try to make the gathering, I really want to get this spoon out in some good waves and I think hatteras is probably the best place to get it going.
I was actually considering going up this weekend because it looks like a solid North swell should build but the winds wont be good at all...

Outer Banks - East Coast Gathering.
Hi Guys,
I game for a east coast gathering. I live in Virginia Beach. Let me know when this might happen. I just hope that I am not working when the gathering happens. I work in the Fire Dept and sometimes my schedule conflicts with things that I like to do sometimes.
I got a brand new Romanosky Quad for Christmas and I am ready to get it in the water.
Its good to see a few more east coast KB out there. I saw two other KB in Virginia Beach this past summer. Its rare to see another KB around VB.
I was at the Cape Hatteras gathering a few years ago when Eric Carson. Stephan Michael and crew hit it just before Hurricane Isabel hit. I was only able to hit a half day with them but it was fun. Hopefully they would make the trip again too.
I'll keep my eye on this thread on the board to see when this gathering may happen.

I didn't know there were any of us in VB. i've been going to sandbridge since before i could walk, family bought a house there in the 60's, and i've never seen anyone on a kneelo. good to know.
i either head down there or to assateague any weekend there's waves. i haven't surfed in a while, mostly because of work, so i'll probably be coming down a handful of times before we all meet up in hatteras.
i usually come down on either thursday or friday afternoon, and camp out at north bay shore campground, in pungo. i'll be in touch a day or two before i come down. probably in two or three weeks.

You mean I kneeboarded by myself for all those years?
I grew up in Sandbridge at the S curve and started kneeboarding in the 9th grade around 1979. Surfed a little bit down by Tuna lane every now and then, but it never made sense to drive to surf when we could just walk.
All of my friends were stand ups and in fact I never saw a kneeboarder in action until Eric's gathering 2 years ago.
Did make trips down to OBX and fact that was where I got my first kneeboard at Natural Art Surf Shop.
Sadly had to move away in 1996 and now only get a few trips a year, but that is another story.
If my schedule fits, I might try to make your gathering, but since I am popping in to see Eric in a few weeks, I may have to wait awhile until I get another pass from the wife.

My family's house is the corner of whiting and sandpiper, third row. i used to surf, bodysurf and sponge at the s turn all the time, though i am only 23, so that is why we never saw each other i'm sure.
and i haven't stayed in that house since i was about 16. the last few years of HS i always camped, as i do now when i go back. but i lived at folly beach, sc for about 5 years, and during that time i didn't go to sandbridge once.
hope you can make it back, the more the merrier. but anytime you are thinking of making a run at sandbridge, definitely let me know, i'll always go back for good waves at the spot i learned to swim and surf. lots of fond memories from the s-turn. particularly hurricane felix, maybe 95 or 96. the absolute best i ever saw sandbridge. breaking 1/4 mile out, had to be solid 8-10, clean as a whistle. the shorebreak was just punishing the seawalls, whitewater was bouncing easily 30ft high, completely covering all the oceanfront houses. i didn't have the balls or the board to paddle out that day, but the next day was more managable and still firing.

"You mean I kneeboarded by myself for all those years?"
Yep. I'm a little older than you. In 1979 I graduated high school in VB (First Colonial).
I have kneeboarded VB since 1975. I surfed North End alot, Wooden Pier, 1st Street, Croatan, Sandbridge. I been all over.
In all the years that I kneeboarded there were a few KBs back in the 70s. I went to HS with 2 KBs, actually 3 if you count Wes Lane who used to KB back in the 70s sometimes.
There is an older guy in VB that has about a dozen Steve Lis fishes, no kidding. I actually saw them with my own eyes. He had a couple of really interesting ones. A couple had no stringer.
I did see the same guy this past summer at 1st street and I saw another KBer at Croatan. The guy at Croatan said he had just moved to VB and he was originally from New Jersey.
I did live in Norfolk until last year and I sold my house there and I bought a house in VB. I am 2 miles from the beach now so thats really good.
Well it looks like maybe this year I will see more KBs on the east coast here. Thats good.

I'll be in Melbourne, Fla on business the last week of February. Should be able to surf in the afternoons. Will definitely be on it if there is swell - looking forward to shedding the wetsuit. If anyone wants to hook up while I'm down there email me at gogglefog@hotmail.com.

SAME SAME
Same same for me.
Even if we don't have the best waves we should have the most beer.

rodanthe or farther south would be the ideal place to meet. i think that from cherry point it's kind of a hassle with ferries and all.
anyone coming from out of town can crash at my house, although i live about 45 minutes to an hour inland from kitty hawk.
i'm good to go any weekend other than march 31- april 2.
