Regarding tides, weather and the surf forecast-
Salt Creek is very protected with kelp offshore, high cliffs and headlands to the south and the north. A secret component of the Creek is that a south wind blows offshore at the Creek. I have had epic days at the Creek when every place else is blown out from a south wind. It can handle most any wind except for a northwest which sneaks in between the kelp and the northern cliffs. The waves can be very good during a storm. Of course, a full-on major winter storm can turn it into Victory-at-Sea as well. I expect that we have a reasonable chance of good conditions.
Tides are perfect- high for Gravels in the morning, very low for the Right off Point in the afternoon.
Surfline forecast as of 1/20/04 is as follows:
Friday,Jan 23: 4-6 ft. - shoulder high to 1 ft. overhead occasionally 8 ft. and fair-good conditions.
Saturday,Jan 24: 4-6 ft. - shoulder high to 1 ft. overhead and fair+ conditions.
72-HOUR FORECAST
On Wednesday, a new WNW swell (280-300) will gradually build through the day. Average spots, that can handle the high-tide, hang in the 3-4’ range through most of the morning, while best breaks see some sets running a foot+ overhead by later in the afternoon. This swell will build further on Thursday and into Friday. By Friday, many breaks see surf in the shoulder to head high range, while best breaks see sets going a couple of feet+ overhead.
Conditions: Expect clean morning conditions for the next few days (Wed-Fri) with winds staying light offshore in the mornings before switching around and coming light onshore in the afternoons. Variable morning winds are expected by Saturday morning.
The Wetsand forecast as of 1/20/04 is as follows:
Surf- Friday the 23rd this swell is looking to peak with overhead sets. Saturday the 24th the NW swell increases about 10%, but rain and wind are looking to trash conditions.
Weather- Friday. Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 60s. Friday night. Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower to mid 40s. Saturday and Saturday night. Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers. Highs around 60. Lows in the lower to mid 40s.

One more thing, follows is directions to Bob's Monarch Beach summer house-
Monarch Bay is the North end of the same Salt Creek cove. You can either make the 10 minute walk down the beach, or drive: Driving: from Salt Creek, head North on PCH until you reach the Crown Valley intersection, turn left into Monarch Bay. Go to the gate guard and tell them you're visiting the Schiff's at 403. Your name needs to be on the list.
The gate guard will give you a day pass. There are two entrances into Monarch Bay. When you're at the gate guard, it's NOT the one straight ahead. Turn around and go through the Southbound entrance. Speed bumps are board-killers... take it slow. Make the only left. The house is
the 2nd on the left. (again, #403.) BTW, there are no street signs.
Walking: after you've crossed the storm drainage, you'll see the Monarch Bay clubhouse. Walk up the road before the clubhouse. Continue walking
up along the cliffline until you come to the only right-hand turn. Turn right, the house is the second on the left.

Salt Creek gathering
Tom -
what's the cost these days for parking at the Salt Creek lot? Is it coins only or do they have cash or change machines there?
Also, will there be enough parking at Bob's? Those Monarch Bay blue hairs hopefully aren't going to get apoplectic if a bunch of wet, sandy KB'ers start clogging up the side streets ...
I used to love surfing the Salt Creek left point in summer when I lived in LB, and despite the cost of living in that neck of the woods there are still some assholes at the Creek. It's been cleaned up a bit by the Ritz Carlton and more development than you can shake a gnat catcher at, but don't count on the absence of "go home kook" graffiti. I never had any problems there or in the lot, even when it was free to park there. And if multiple peaks are working, the crowd does get spread out a bit.
It's a bit of a drive, but I'll be there, hopefully with the Manss brothers in tow!
cya Saturday!

Hi Darcy,
There's lots of available parking up and down our street, and up and down the cliffline. If we get THAT many kneelos, I'm more worried about where to park everyone in the house!
A couple of helpful hints...
- Make sure your day pass is clearly visible
- You won't get in unless your name is on the list. At a certain point, I'll take the list to the guard. Please try to get your name in when you arrive.
- You can reach us at the house (see previous post.) However, try your best to get your name in, as I don't want to 'nickel and dime' the security guys...
Bring videos!
Looking forward to seeing everyone!
Bob

Parking at the Salt Creek parking lot is $1 per hour. The meter will accept coins or dollar bills.
I'll be there at 6:45AM. Best waves in the morning should be between 7:00 and 9:30.
I vote we force the Black's crew to drink generic beer. Also, anyone who gets launched over the falls will have to chug three geneirc beers.

GATHERING
If I's go over the falls I gets to chug three beers. I loves me a kneeboard gathering. By 7:00am I'll be feeling great. Oh, wait a minute its Saturday morning. Chugging three generics is breakfast. Oh well. See ya Saturday. Pink eyes and all.

Predictions for Saturday-
1. Just checked Wetsand, Surfline and Weather.com forecasts-
New swell will likely peak along with the rising tide on Saturday morning with 6-7' faces. Surfline is predicting SW winds on Saturday which usually blow offshore at the Creek. Weather.com is calling for a 10% chance of rain on Saturday. Wetsand forecasts "trash" conditions for Saturday (could be good at the Creek if the wind is from the South).
2. I'm predicting a chugfest of generic beer after the Blacks crew gets launched repeatedly. I'm also predicting that Bob Schiff will drink some snooty microbrew NorCal designer beer.
3. Lastly, I predict that everyone will pull into gnarly super fast semi close-outs and accumulate many minutes of tunnel time.
