time change!
TIME CHANGE: to make it easier for guys traveling from outside SD, and to better coordinate our arrival at Pizza Port, we're pushing the start time back to 8 a.m. We'll aim to shoot video until about 11 a.m. and then kick-it at PP until low tide. Greg L is on a first-name basis with the manager at PP and they promise to do us right.

Crack
Jack, No pun intended I hope.
Last time I surfed Blacks those friendly beach goers showed way more crack than I really wanted to see. Are you going to ask some of the sand dwelling locals for a day of cover?

Wave forecast(12/21 1AM) off San Diego 4 this coming Fri-Sat
It looks as though there will be a significant swell for the Blacks gathering. Here's this morning's (12/21 00:00) current forecast for waves/swell at NDBC buoy 46047 (Tanner Bank, about 120 mi off the coast of San Diego).
Although it looks as though a lot of wave energy will be present offshore, the direction is pretty north (~310d). So you Blacks regulars will have to interpret how much of this energy will make it into the coast (not much in North County). It also appears that there could be a residual wind chop present Sat morning. Note too that traditionally (although not always) the predicted height of these large swells tends to diminish with each new prediction as the day of reckoning approaches.
Forecasts are at 6 hr intervals. Times in PST. Deep water sig. wave-ht is combined height of all swells present. "Swell #" indicates a specific swell present a the indicated time (there may be more than one). Format of the data at each 6hr interval arranged in sequence across a row:
Swell #
Sig. wave-ht for that particular swell/wave train
Period of that swell/wave train
Direction of the swell (from)
Fraction of the total energy present associated with this swell/wave train
Average breaker ht (for a beach facing directly into this swell)
Max breaker ht (for a beach facing directly into this swell

forecast
Here is what Wetsand is saying about the weekend in SoCal:
Friday the 26th we’re expecting our next NW swell to arrive, a repeat of the swell coming in for the 23rd-24th, but with perhaps a 10% increase in size. Friday we’re expecting head high sets, overhead on the better sets at standouts.
Saturday the 27th is looking similar to Friday, possibly somewhat bigger.
Sunday the 28th, so far, is looking to see plenty of NW, a foot or two overhead on the better sets.
Blacks will pick up just about anything - so as long as conditions are clean we should be looking good. I'll gladly be "camera boy" for the 27th - I've got 364 other days a year to surf this place. Of course if someone gets cold or tired...

weather and swell
Hopefully we'll score some more of this high pressure weather we've been experiencing the last couple days, but there is a slight possiblity of some rain on saturday. It's been going back and forth from dry and clear to cloudy and cool every couple days (with another offshore episode starting up today, now that it's Monday and I'm at work ...)
Stormy conditions are not all that good for Black's, keep your fingers crossed!
