Here's a link for a map and an also a blurb of the beach park area...
Salt Creek Beach Park
33333 South Pacific Coast Highway
Dana Point, CA 92629
United States
Dana Point between the Monarch Beach Golf Course and the harbor.
Hours: 6 a.m. to midnight year-round.
Parking: $1/hour (pay-and-display box) in large lot off of Ritz Carlton Drive. A free secondary lot is located one mile south and off of Selva Road
(Dana Strand)
Salt Creek & Dana Strands
Salt Creek Beach is actually made up of two stretches of beach nestled between Monarch Bay and the Dana Point Headlands. The beaches are divided by a rocky outcropping called "The Point" which sits below large cliffs and the Ritz Carlton Hotel. The north side of the point is commonly referred to as Salt Creek while the south side of the point is called Dana Strands. Salt Creek is best accessed from Ritz Carlton Drive while Dana Strands can be accessed from Selva Road. Both beaches can be accessed either way but may entail a further walk than you intended.
Salt Creek has a variety of facilities such as a park area with picnic tables and barbeques, restrooms, showers, snack bar, beach wheel chair, and a basketball half court. Be advised however, that the pedestrian pathway down to the beach is steep and fairly long. Disabled persons displaying a proper placard may drive down the hill to drop off and pick up disabled persons only. This road is otherwise reserved for pedestrians and authorized vehicles only.
Dana Strands has limited facilities but does offer restrooms at the north end of the beach with showers and a picnic area. Public access from Selva Road is down a large set of stairs followed by a steep ramp leading down to the sand. Use caution when descending this ramp for it can become slippery when sand builds up on the pavement.
Hazards
There are many hazards at Salt Creek Beach. Crowded water conditions, powerful surf and shore break mixed with constantly changing bottom conditions can make Salt Creek one of the more dangerous beaches in South Orange County. At Salt Creek, swimming and surfing areas are posted by the lifeguards. These areas are designed to keep the fast moving surfers away from swimmers and waders and to designate and area for swimming with the least amount of hazards.
Dana Strands has a large amount of submerged rocks scattered throughout the surf zone. The largest concentrations of these rocks exist at the base of the public access ramp and extend southward for approximately 400 yards. Swimmer and waders should avoid this area and remain to the north of the ramp or to the south lifeguard tower # 5 down the beach.
It is important to remember that the conditions can change significantly in a matter of hours. Always check with the lifeguard before you enter into uncertain territory.
Dogs: Allowed in parking lots and on pavement only; not allowed on the sand.
The Park is surrounded by private gated communities and is a home to both a St Regis and a Ritz Carlton hotel resorts.

If I can make a small suggestion for those coming from the south to Yes use the signal at the intersection @ Starbucks to make the left hand turn instead of proceeding to the next corner as a safer alternative to crossing two lanes of oncoming traffic.. bad accident here a couple years ago claimed the lives of a couple of sober non speeding local kids.
Morning tides :
High 5.1 @ 2:01am
Low 0.2 @ 10:18am

I've fished allot at strand an one spring all I was catching was Shovel nose guitar fish..that an the occasional leopard or sand shark babies... I've walked through the tide pools at minus tides an seen mermaids purses here and there 4 to 6 in one day is more than I've discovered elsewhere.toofast3 wrote:taodog.... ......I have never heard that one..I used to live in Mission Veijo and surfed Creek all the time. I never saw or heard of anything like that happenning. Even now when i`m up that way, nothing. Maybe I should re-think riding black boards
In one book or web site I found reference to the guitar fish only coming up near shore to give birth the rest of the year they are in deep water.

Funny you should mention that....gumby wrote:We should be ok the Salt Creek Curse is lowest during the new moon. If you survive the drive there you should be ok.
The best time to fish is within the 90 minute window of any of four (sunset/rise moonset/rise) events because that is when fish are the most actively feeding.
Yeah it is like the corner going north if your a local you know to heed caution..
I'm not trying to be a buzz kill or a wet blanket I want people to be aware... so everyone can get home alive and in one piece.
I've been fortunate enough to spend most of my childhood going to Dive meets or Catalina every weekend with my parents on our 25ft inboard volvo.
When I was 4, I use to beg for the chance to clothes pin the dollar bill to the 20ft bamboo pole the Young's would use to ask for parking beach access.
So whats the swell direction (degree) suppose to be Saturday..?
