beer
this thread has stumbled on me favourite thing ,the golden amber.just got back from south australia a coulple of weeks back after 3 months of desert madness.drank coopers most nights (the sparkling ale only my friends).which isnt ideal after dehydrating yourself all day.but when it costs you $32 a carton you must smash them down.we even went to the coopers factory on the way home and were escorted back outside the front gate ,apparently they dont do tours and dont like tourists taking photos of the processes mentioned earlier in this thread.no hard feelings on my account.i'm no concentrating on working off the coopers for hawaii, there's coopers labels coming out the pours of my skin when i sweat.
Update to Red's Coopers Cup
Watched the video. There is an awful lot of shots of washing machine waves, mostly because it was so hard to pick up on guys taking off (it gets hectic with 20 kneelos in the water taking off in the foam), but also because the vid is unedited. There are a number of great rides in it, even though we were too late to get some of Troy's airs.
Featured surfers include Mark Macleod, Pinebox, Meathead, Jamie Mc, Mike Nov, Sparrow, Irish, Parksey, Chiko, Troy, Red, Craig, Dave, Jim, Gary and a big bloke on a white board with green rails that got tons of waves.
People who missed out on nominations for the Coopers were Gav Lewis, Jamie Mc and Mark Mc. Albert had so many waves that he must have got down to $1 per wave for the trip.
If you missed it, read about it on page 4 and 5 (before people got distracted by the beer discussion).

Some things we learnt from the Inaugural Coopers Cup
1. There are no losers because the winners share their beer .
2. Bring a few extra beers for the post event chat.
3. It was intended to have a semi-formal event with 2 groups surfing. This mutated into a self-managed event where people chose when to surf and watched what went on when in the water and on the beach. It was really relaxed good fun this way.
4. Guys pushed their performances and encouraged each other.
5. The prize was small so it wasn't worth hassling in the water. This contributed to the good vibe.
6. The recognition factor in the nomination ceremony was a significant motivator. To have another KS say you were ripping (when they were too) is a big deal.
7. It's good to leave a mate on the beach who can recognise your style, because it's hard to figure out who's who.
8. Impressions of 'going-well' sort-of depended on number of waves a person got.
9. One person / one vote may not be the best avenue for surfer selection. Possibly multiple votes is an option.
It was lots of fun and certainly built excitement for the PI Classic.

Dazz has converted the Reds Coopers Cup and PI Semis DVD to NTSC for all you other world types (USA, Japan et al)
You can order from www.dazz.org
It's 15 minutes of sick kneeboarding plus 45 minutes of raw footage of the washing machine that was Reds Coopers Cup. Good value at ten bucks
I will try to bring a few DVD's with me to Hawaii

tanks, eh
i just ordered a custom boardbag from destination surf. it's 6'6" long, 25" wide and 18" wide 1 foot from either end. (those are all inside dimensions). a coffin that will hold 4 finless boards. this is really for a trip to indo in may but i might have it by the gathering. gotta keep those precious babies safe! good luck with your foam search.
