What route are you trying to avoid? When are you coming up? Both 46 to Paso and 166 to Santa Maria are pretty dangerous roads.

There are a couple of "reasonable" ways to get to 101N out of Thousand oaks from OC. My favorite is 57N->210W->134W->101W then accross the San Fernando Valley on 101, if you can get to the valley before 2:30pm on Friday. This keeps you off of the 5 through downtown and off the dreaded 405. Another way accross the valley is 210->118->23->101, though the interchange involves surface streets I believe.

Bee your on it. Keep heading that direction and find the most direct route through San Simion.Hearst Castle is always on the Destination signs. You are also headed for surf. Santa Cruz today 4 foot both south off the point at the Lane and northwest off the peak. See you all Friday night.
Saw Tom Linn today great stuff headed our way for the contest I'll fill in the Big Sur clan when I get there.

Going through Santa Barbara will be a nightmare!! However, at least you will be able to check out the surf :D Agreed that the 46 is a lonely stretch and can be pretty dangerous. Good luck and I am jealous that you guys are going to score!!!

Scott - Looks like I won't be down until around dawn on Saturday.

My brother (organic farmer) has been ill and I have to harvest produce Friday. My plan is to surf and then run a beach clean-up at Sand Dollar - that is, if the Coastal Clean-Up people get their stuff together and get me the bags/gloves/surveys.

So, I'll pull out of Aptos between 4 - 4:30 AM. If anyone needs me to pick up anything on the way down, give me a call on my cell: 831-239-6322. Just make sure you call me before I blow past Carmel/River Road. After that, cell reception goes bye bye.

I'll have my son p-up some extra wax when he's working at Freeline today and tomorrow.

I'll be leaving Santa Cruz around noon tomorrow (Friday) sans wife and kids this year :( . If anyone needs a ride - would be glad to give. You'll have to put up with the bracing effect of Highway one on my 67 VW (plenty or room for boards) and probably a book on tape but...Returning Sunday around 2-3:00.

My son and his friends- who are moving away to college this week- just had a 'going-away surf' at The Hook for 3 1/2 hours ---the report is that it was super fun.

Beach Clean-Up is off. The local Pacific Valley Elementray School is spending this week cleaning Sand Dollar, Mill Creek and Kirk Creek. Good for environment and, now, more wave time for us! But we can also pickup whatever we find.

Glad to hear you made it home safely Beeline. I Want to to thank Scott for calling this Gathering together. Though I only surfed on Friday, it was a blast!!!! That Bull Kelp was wild and the waves were GREAT!!!! And most of all, it was great to see old friends again, and great to make some new ones too!!!!!

OK, that was a whirlwind!

Many thanks to Scott for setting up such a great event!

I just had enough time to surf all Friday and Saturday AM. I'm sore and smiling today!

Great to spend time with everyone there! AMAZING salmon c/o Wesley, and all the better to top it with John S's homemade, homegrown salsa.

FWIW, the damage is looking like I was hanged c/o wetsuit rash, a loose fin, and all these funny pock marks on the board. Maybe it's the next thing? Golf-ball-bottoms?

Fun surf, and great to see everyone ripping it up!

Cheers!
