Yo, Matt!
You shoulda been there! Fortunately you WILL be soon and it'll be great. It won't take so long walking back up the hill with you now
Yes, I've ridden my new fish 4-5 times now. I got it for the big days and it's more board than what I'll need, meaning the board's upper limit for size is above mine. But it'll do me well on any big day at Blacks.
Thanks Jack, that's cool..
Hurry up next south swell!!

Brad,
Where did you pick up your new Fish? I'm currently riding my 1984 fish (5'5" | 20-7/8" | 2-1/8") that I had shaped at South Coast back in the day.
Looking for another board to rotate through and get used to, so I can give my classic some days off!
If anyone can make some suggestions I'd appreciate it!

Hi Randiego,
My fish is a genuine Blast! from Bud McCray in Hawaii. It's his F2K model that's a quad and is 5'10" x 22 1/2 x 2 3/8 or so. I'm 5'10 x 143 lbs and got it for bigger days locally and if I ever travel to where there's serious surf. I tried one that was 5'7" on a small low tide day at Blacks and it was resposive and EXPLOSIVE across those walls If I had the money I'd get a 5'5" or a 5'6" as well. Especially since Mr Holtzman rides a 5'6" or so in 50 foot surf!!! or so it seems
But you may want to consider Bud's little quad swallow tail board. I tried Bill Lerner's (5'7" I think) that was real loose, yet positive. Really fun.
Now, you'll get alot of opinions here all of which are valid. The best thing is to try different boards. Local shapers that seem to be making the most kneeboards currently are Schoelkopf (Eric) and K58 (James Magano). Try a dawn patrol at Blacks or Oceanside Harbor on a Saturday-you'll have lots to choose from My current everyday stick is a 5'8" roundpin quad by Schoelkopf that you can try if we ever hook up.

Brad - thanks for the info!
My own preference has always been the down-the-line, hold the face speed demons that the old-school fish shapers always made. At 5'10" x 210 I'd be looking at getting something a little bigger at maybe 5'8 or so...
I'll be at the trestles gathering on the 17th, maybe I'll see you at that. Either that or I'll get my ass outta bed for a Sat. DP at Blacks or O'Side. I surf Blacks quite a bit after work and the late morning shift on weekends...
Anyone heard any good news about the South that's supposed to hit tomorrow?

Surfhorn and Mutiny: thanks for input on Mex!
OC guys: With this almost straight south (180degrees), is Trestles a good bet for a DP tomorrow? What will the crowd be like?
Sorry if I seem a little clueless - This is my first summer back in my hometown of San Diego after 6 years of working on the East Coast for the federal government - i'm back and I'm stayin'! 6 long years of no surfing and crappy winters definitely increased my appreciation for I've been missing!

it was basically all closeouts at RJ's when I was there. Went over the falls for the first time in a long time on one of the bigger set waves. It was one of those slow motion deals when you are looking down and going holy s..t. And today I am stuck at work with no way to redeem myself.
