C.P. Odom,

That's a good point, kind of letting my own needs cloud my thinking. Plus, it could be difficult to coordinate at Jalama.

My first thought is along the Rincon Parkway north of Ventura (old PCH), there are lots of potential good learning sites. There's also a lot of options for camping between Ventura and Rincon.

Ventura RV Resort (a bit pricey) is just north of Ventura River, and has tent camping and RV hookups, ...also has freeway noise from the 101.

Farther north there's Emma Wood State Beach.

There's also RV camping right along the old PCH highway

Also camping at Faria Park just a bit farther north (Pitas Point) (but few spaces).

Please everyone interested, please chime in.

Thanks,
Bob

Hey you locals in that area, what is the water temp that time of year? I want to see if the kids have the right wetsuits.

Jimbo, very good call on Hobson's, another camping site. Also, easy reef break right off the campsite with the potential for long rides and very mellow crowd. I always forget about that place...never surfed there.

John, don't scare the Sdiego folks...51 at Cojo...yeah, but isn't it always offshore there? Enuff bragging...LOL

Water along the North Ventura County coast is usually somwhere between 54 and 57 degrees around then, sometimes warmer--sometimes colder...3/2 is always okay, and may want to dust off the spring just in case. For a good estimate when we get closer to the date, check water temps on the E. Santa Barbara bouy, then add 2-3 degrees for an estimation.

One of the breaks between Rincon and Ventura could be good as they are accessible, mellow and uncrowded. Is that Hobson's?? I'm not familiar with where Hobson's is. The May 19-20 dates sound good as well.

Jalama seems a bit to far for a day trip with kids from So Cal.

Hobson's

Smack dab in the middle between Rincon and Ventura Point. Mellow reef break with better point spots north and south.

Directions and some info:
http://gsa.countyofventura.org/parks/pa ... htm#HOBSON
10 campsites and plenty of parking along the old PCH

Also for any campers, there's Faria Beach and Rincon Parkway
http://gsa.countyofventura.org/parks/parkinfo.htm#FARIA
http://gsa.countyofventura.org/parks/pa ... htm#RINCON

Now, does anyone out there have any extra old used kneeboards good for 50 to 80 lb kids to learn on, to buy, borrow or trade? Mine're all too big.
